Lady Pirates split first two league matches
The Prairie Lady Pirates split a pair of home league volleyball matches this past week. On Tuesday, Aug. 29 they defeated Potlatch 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-20and on Thursday, Aug. 31, they lost to Troy 11-25, 9-25, 8-25.
Vs. Potlatch
The win against Potlatch was the first time Prairie had beaten the Loggers since the 2020 season. Alli Geis blocked this spike attempt by Potlatch.
Prairie led much of the first game only to have Potlatch rally at the end for the win.
After 2 aces by Tamden Pecarovich, Prairie led the Loggers 17-9.
Prairie still led 22-17 after an ace by Ember Martin but Potlatch then scored a sideout on a net violation by Prairie and took their first lead at 22-23. A block by Kylie Schumacher tied the score at 23-23 but a missed serve and then a missed spike gave Potlatch the game.
Prairie again took an early lead in the second game and after a block by Alli Geis and an ace by Kaylie Lockett, Prairie led 10-5.
After several sideouts it was 12-8 when Sydney Shears scored a sideout to send Sierra Oliver to the service line. A kill each by Shears and Lockett put Prairie up 15-8.
After going back and forth including a string of 7 straight sideouts, Prairie still led 20-14. Potlatch then put a rally together and finally took the lead at 22-23 before missing a serve.
Pecarovich scored a kill on a dig to put Prairie back on top then Geis served an ace for the game-winner.
In the third game it was the Loggers that took the early lead at 2-6. Prairie came back to tie it on 2 kills and a block by Lexi Schumacher and a block by Kylie Schumacher.
Prairie didn’t take their first lead until Pecarovich served an ace to make it 12-11. Taylor Riener added a kill to make it 13-11. After a pair of sideouts, Pecarovich scored on a did and Oliver added an ace for a 16-12 lead.
After another pair of sideouts, Kylie Schumacher scored a pair of kills and Riener added a kill on a dig for a 20-13 lead.
Potlatch again rallied back as they closed the deficit to 23-21. Shears scored a sideout kill to get to game point. Potlatch scored a sideout bue Prairie got the game winner on a kill by Geis.
Prairie again fell behind early at 3-6 in the fourth game before Lexi Schumacher scored a sideout kill. Geis then served 2 aces to tie it. Kylie Schumacher scored a first touch kill off a block, Geis served an ace, Riener scored a kill and Geis served another ace for a 10-6 lead.
Potlatch came back to tie the game at 12 but a tip by Kylie Schumacher put Prairie back on top and Lockett followed with an ace. Potlatch tied the game again at 14, 15 and 16 before Prairie took the lead for good on a kill by Lexi Schumacher.
Geis then served Prairie to a 6 point lead with 3 aces plus a block by Kylie Schumacher and a kill by Lexi Schumacher.
Potlatch got back within 3 at 22-19 before a sideout kill by Lexi Schumacher. Martin served an ace to get to match point. After a sideout, Kylie Schumacher scored the match winning kill.
Kylie Schumacher had 20 kills including 3 blocks. Lexi Schumacher had 14 kills including a block plus 1 assist and 1 ace. Geis had 10 kills including 2 blocks. She had an assist and 10 aces. She was Prairie’s top server being at the line for 22 points.
Shears had 7 kills plus an assist. Pecarovich had 6 kills, 39 assists and 4 aces. Riener had 6 kills and 2 assists. Lockett had 1 kill, 2 assists and 3 aces. Oliver and Martin each had 2 assists and 2 aces.
Prairie won all 3 games in the JV match, 25-20, 25-16 and 15-3.
Prairie fell behind in the opening game 0-2 but Avery Riener served them to a 4-2 lead with 3 aces. They never gave back the lead the rest of the game.
The second game was close at the start but a pair of aces by Hailey Hanson with a kill each by Nadia Cash and Riener.
After 4 sideouts Cash served 3 straight aces with a kill each by Ellie Nuxoll and Aubree Rehder as Prairie took a 16-7 lead.
Potlatch cut the lead down to 5 at 19-14 but didn’t get any closer as Prairie finished out the game 6-2 with Riener and Hanson each serving an ace and Hanson adding 4 kills. Hanson’s ace was the match-winning point.
Prairie then dominated in the third game.
Priarie led just 6-3 when Riener scored a free ball kill to send Hanson to the service line. Hanson then served out the match. She had 6 aces while Breanne Schwartz scored a pair of kills.
Vs. Troy
On Thursday the defending state champion Trojans played like they could win it again as they dominated the Pirates in all 3 games.

Troy scored 2 straight points on a kill and an ace. Prairie tied it on a kill by Riener but then Troy scored 3 straight.
Prairie got within 4-5 on an ace by Geis and 5-6 on a bad serve by Troy. After that Troy took control scoring 5 straight points.
Lexi Schumacher served 2 aces to get Prairie back within 3 at 8-11 but then Troy answered with 6 straight to take an 8-17 lead.
Kylie Schumacher scored a sideout kill and Lockett served 2 aces to cut the lead to 11-17 but Troy then scored a sideout and served out the game.
Troy scored the first 2 points of the second game and the last time Prairi was close was at 4-5 after a free ball kill by Pecarovich. Troy scored 10 of the next 12 points and Prairie did not score a point while serving the rest of the game.
Troy jumped out to leads of 0-4, 1-7 and 3-10 in the third game. Prairie’s only service point came on a block by Kylie Schumacher with Geis serving.
Prairie’s only other serving point of the game came on an ace by Lockett that made it 7-20.
Prairie’s only point the rest of the game came on a missed serve by Troy.
Geis had 5 kills in the match including a block. She also had 1 ace. Kylie Schumacher had 3 kills including 1 block. Pecarovich had 2 kills and 9 assists. Riener had 2 kills. Lexi Schumacher had 1 kill, 1 assist and 2 aces. Lockett had 3 aces. Oliver had 1 assist.
Prairie is now 1-1 overall and in league play.
The JV team won their match 21-25, 25-23, 15-6.
The first game started like it was going to be a lopsided match in favor of Troy as the Trojans jumped out to a 2-10 lead.
Troy held the lead by as many as 11 points at 9-20 and 11-22 before Riener scored a sideout kill to make it 12-22 and send Erica Schlader to the service line.
Schlader served 5 aces with Troy called for a rotation violation and Nuxoll adding 2 kills as Prairie got within 2 at 20-22.
Prairie wound up losing the game by 4 but that big serving run gave them some confidence that they could play with Troy going into the second game.
Rehder scored a sideout kill to start the second game and a kill each by Hanson and Rehder gave Prairie a 3-0 lead.
Troy came back to tie it at 5-5 but a sideout kill by Breanne Schwartz gave Prairie back the lead. Hanson then served 4 straight aces for a 10-5 lead.
Prairie held the lead the rest of the game although it got tight at the finish.
After a 3-point service run by Rehder Prairie led 22-14. After 2 straight sideouts, Hanson served an ace for a 24-15 lead.
Troy then scored a sideout and had a big service run to cut the lead down to 24-23 before Prairie was able to score the game-winning point.
In the deciding third game Prairie took a 4-1 lead as Rehder served 2 aces.
3 kills by Nuxoll and an ace by Schlader helped Prairie keep the lead at about 4 points.
After Troy cut the lead to 9-6, Nuxoll scored a sideout kill and then went to the service line. She then served out the match. She had 2 aces. Hanson scored a kill and then Nuxoll served 2 more aces to end the match.
