Lady Patriots win 2 of 3
The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots won 2 of 3 league matches last week. On Tuesday, Oct. 3, they hosted Deary and lost 14-25, 14-25, 23-25. On Wednesday, Oct. 4, they traveled to Weippe where they defeated Timberline 17-25, 25-22, 10-25, 25-18, 15-8. Finally on Thursday, Oct. 5, they traveled to Craigmont where we understand they beat Highland but have no details on the match.
Vs. Deary
Visiting Deary dominated the first two sets and edged out the third for a 14-25, 14-25, 23-25 win over St. John Bosco.
Deary also won the JV match 14-25, 14-25.
At Timberline
In the opening game at Timberline, SJB stayed close early on although they led just one at 6-5 after an ace by Julia Wassmuth. Raylie Warren makes a pass in the match at Timberline.
Scoring went back and forth with SJB gaining their final tie with Timberline after a kill by Sarah Waters that made it 16-16. Timberline outscored the Patriots 1-9 the rest of the way including the final 7 points of the game.
SJB fell behind 2-5 in the second game but came back and tied the score at 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. The latter after a bricked serve that sent Waters to the service line. Waters served 4 aces and Raylie Warren added a kill for a 14-9 lead.
Timberline got back within 2 at 15-13 but a carry violation then 2 kills by Rachel Sonnen and an ace by Warren made it 19-13.
Timberline rallied back to tie the game at 22-22. After a Bosco timeout, Timberline missed the serve sending Waters to the service line. She served 2 aces to win the game and tie the match at 1 game each.
Bosco was unable to carry that finish into the third game through as Timberline raced to leads of 0-7 and 1-9.
Bosco never was able to get back into the game as the Spartans kept adding to their lead before finally winning by 15.
SJB fell behind 2-4 in the fourth game before Timberline bricked a serve. Waters then served 3 straight aces to give SJB the lead at 6-4. SJB held the lead except for ties at 8 and 10. After Timberline tied it at 13, they took the lead back and led by 2 at 14-16 before missing a serve.
That put Waters on the service line. Catherine Seubert scored a kill and Warren scored 2 kills to give SJB the lead. Waters then served 4 aces and Wassmuth scored a kill on a dig for a 23-16 lead.
Timberline scored a sideout and an ace to pull within 23-18 but a kill each by Waters and Seubert gave SJB a 25-18 lead and tied the match at 2 games each.
In the fifth game Timberline led 1-2 when Waters scored a sideout kill. Sonnen then had her best serving run of the night with 6 straight points. She had 3 aces while Warren had a block and a kill and Waters added a kill for an 8-2 lead.
A kill each by Waters and Warren and an ace by Wassmuth left SJB with an 11-4 lead.
Timberline cut the lead to 11-7 but a kill by Warren for a sideout and then an ace by Warren made it 13-7.
After a sideout Sonnen scored a crosscourt kill and Seubert then served an ace to give the Patriots the match.
Waters had 18 kills, 3 assists and 13 aces in the match. Warren had 14 kills, including 2 blocks, 1 assist and 4 aces. Sonnen had 7 kills and 4 aces. Wassmuth had 5 kills, 46 assists and 2 aces. Seubert had 5 kills and 3 aces. Maleah Cummings had 1 kill and 1 ace.
The two teams split the JV match 21-25, 25-11.
SJB jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the opening game as Savannah Perrin had 4 aces. They couldn’t hold the lead though as Timberline came back to take the lead at 10-12 and then 11-16.
SJB got back within a point at 21-22 after an ace by Cummings but Timberline then scored the final 3 points.
In the second game Timberline led 2-3 when Audry Warren scored a sideout kill to tie it. Vivian Dahlsrud then served SJB into the lead. Seubert, Warren and Miah Mager each had a kill and Dahlsrud an ace as they took a 7-3 lead.
An kill by Seubert and an ace by Warren made it 9-4. Another kill by Seubert and an ace by Mager made it 12-5.
After Timberline pulled within 13-8, Perrin scored a kill and then served 3 straight points for a 17-8 lead. She had an ace while Warren and Dahlsrud each had a kill.
With the score at 22-11, Seubert scored a free ball kill to make it 23-11. Warren then scored a back row, free ball kill as the server before serving an ace to end the match.
At Highland
We have no details on this match other than it was a win for St. John Bosco.
