Lady Pirates start 1-1
The Prairie Lady Pirates started their season by splitting a pair of non-league home games. On Tuesday, Nov. 14, they defeated Orofino 64-10 and then on Friday, Nov. 17, they fell to Kendrick 37-49.
Vs. Orofino
The Lady Pirates got off to a fast start against the Maniacs, forcing 17 first quarter turnovers with their press as they jumped out to a 14-0 lead. Lexi Schumacher scored 9 of those 14 points.
After Orofino finally scored at the 3:02 mark, Prairie finished off the first quarter with another 14 straight points for a 28-2 lead after 1 quarter. Lexi Schumacher shoots for 3 of her game-high 27 points against Orofino.
They took off the press in the second quarter but still scored the first 12 points of the period, making it a 26-0 run as they took a 40-2 lead.
Orofino scored their second basket of the game at the 1:59 mark and trailed 45-4 at the half.
Prairie had 5 players with at least as many points as Orofino in the first half. Lexi Schumacher scored 18 in the half while Kylie Schumacher scored 5 in each quarter for 10 at the half. Sage Elven scored 7 while Alli Geis and Sydney Shears scored 4 each.
Prairie backed off in the second half, out scoring Orofino 10-2 in the third quarter and 9-4 in the fourth.
Lexi Schumacher wound up with 27 points including three 3-pointers. Elven and Kylie Schumacher each scored 12 while Geis and Shears scored 4 each. Hailey Hanson scored 3 and Ellie Nuxoll scored 2.
Prairie outrebounded the Maniacs 42-33 with Shears, Lexi Schumacher and Kylie Schumacher each pulling down 7 boards while Geis added 6.
Elven had a double-double as she had 11 steals in the game. Kylie Schumacher added 6 steals. Elven had 4 assists while Shears had 3.
Prairie was 29 for 71 from the field, 41%, and 2 for 5 at the line, 40%. Orofino was 4 for 33 from the field, 12%, and 2 for 8 at the line, 25%.
Orofino had just 12 total players on their roster, 7 of them freshman, so they played just a 2-quarter JV game which was won by the Pirates 26-6.
Prairie scored the first 17 points of the game with Orofino finally getting on the board with a  free throw at the 1:43 mark. Prairie wound up leading 19-4 at the end of the quarter.
Prairie outscored Orofino 7-2 in the second quarter.
The Pirates spread out the scoring as Nadia Cash led the way with 6 points. Aubree Rehder and Halee Rowland scored 5 each while Avery Riener, Erica Schlader and Kylee Riggers scored 3 each. Riggers and Rehder each had a 3-pointer in the game.
Prairie outrebounded Orofino 28-15 with Cash grabbing 5 to lead the team.
Rehder had 7 steals to lead the team with Cash adding 4. Riener had 2 assists.
Prairie was 8 for 42 from the field, 19%, and 7 for 11 at the line, 64%. Orofino was 2 for 7 from the field, 28%, and 2 for 8 at the line, 25%.

Vs. Kendrick
The game against Kendrick was originally scheduled for Thursday but was moved to Friday due to the Kendrick football team’s state championship game against Camas County on Thursday at the Kibbie Dome.
The game against the senior-dominated Tigers was quite different than the game against the young Maniacs earlier in the week.

Kylie Schumacher scored on a putback a minute into the game to tie it but that was the only time the game was tied. Orofino scored 8 of the next 9 points to take a 3-10 lead.
Another putback by Kylie Schumacher and a 3 by Lexi Schumacher cut the lead to 2 at 8-10.
After a Kendrick score, Shears scored on a putback to again cut the lead to 2 at 10-12. Orofino added 2 free throws for a 10-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Kendrick out scored Prairie 3-10 to start the second quarter and take an 11 point lead at 13-24. Hanson’s 3 pointer accounted for Priarie’s points.
Lexi Schumacher added a 3 at the 1:01 mark to make it 16-24. Prairie then got just a free throw in the final minute of the half as Kendrick took a 17-28 lead at the break.
Kendrick scored to open the second half then Prairie put together their best stretch of the game. They scored 7 straight points to get back within 6. Kylie Schumacher had z of those 7 points with Hanson scoring the other 2.
Kendrick broke the run with a 3-pointer and pushed their lead to 9 at 29-38 before Kylie Schumacher scored a putback to cut the deficit to 7 at the end of the third period, 31-38.
Kendrick scored the first 6 points of the fourth quarter to take their biggest lead of the game at 31-44.
A 6-2 run by Prairie cut the lead to 9 as Lexi Schumacher scored a pair of baskets and Geis added a lay-up. That made it 37-46 with 1:23 left.
Those were Prairie’s final points though as Kendrick scored the game’s final 3 points at the free throw line to win by 12.

Turnovers were a big problem for Prairie as they committed 42 of them while Kendrick had just 19.
Prairie managed to outrebound the Tigers 55-46. Kylie Schumacher had a double-double with 13 rebounds to lead the team while Geis and Shears added 10 each.
Hanson and Elven had 3 steals each while Kylie Schumacher, Lexi Schumacher and Geis each had 2 assists.
Prairie was 15 for 49 from the field, 31%, and 3 for 11 at the line, 27%. Kendrick was 18 for 71 from the field, 25%, and 9 for 18 at the line, 50%.
Prairie is 1-1 on the season.
The JV team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 27-25 win over the Tigers.
Neither team could find the basket in the first quarter as Prairie shot 1 for 12 and Kendrick shot 2 for 13. Kendrick led 2-4 at the end of the quarter with Cash scoring Prairie’s 2 points.
The second quarter was even worse for Prairie as they were 0-13 and scored only a free throw by Lillian Rehder.
Kendrick wasn’t much better as they scored just 1 basket and 2 free throws for a 3-8 halftime lead.
Kendrick scored first to open the second half then Prairie finally found some offense. Kennedy Riener, Schlader and Rowland each scored a basket to tie the game at 9-9.
Kendrick then scored 4 straight points before Avery Riener hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 1. Aubree Rehder then scored on a putback with 1:12 left in the third quarter to give Prairie their first lead since it was 2-0.
Kendrick took back the lead to start the fourth quarter then Aubree Rehder and Avery Riener each hit a 3 to give Prairie a 20-15 lead.
Prairie was able to hold the lead the rest of the way.
A Kendrick basket was answered by a basket by Kennedy Riener. A Kendrick free throw was answered by a basket by Aubree Rehder.
A Kendrick 3 was answered by a putback by Kennedy Riener.
Kendrick scored 2 free throws to get within 3 with Aubree Rehder scoring a free throw with 19 seconds left to make it 27-23.
Kendrick scored with 13 second left to get within 2. They then got the ball back for a buzzer beating shot but Aubree Rehder blocked it to preserve the win.
Aubree Rehder wound up with 8 points to lead the scoring. Kennedy Riener added 6. Avery Riener scored 6 on a pair of 3-pointers. Cash, Rowland and Schlader scored 2 each and Lillian Rehder scored 1.
Prairie had a 60-43 advantage on the boards. Aubree Rehder and Rowland each had 14 rebounds while Cash had 12.
Cash had 4 steals and Aubree Rehder had 3 assists.
Prairie was 11 for 60 from the field, 18%, and 2 for 7 at the line, 28%. Kendrick was 8 for 57 from the field, 14%, and 8 for 18 at the line, 44%.

JV girls beat Highland varsity
The Prairie JV girls improved to 3-0 on the season after they rallied from a 7 point halftime deficit to beat the Highland varsity 33-28 at Craigmont Monday, Nov. 20
Highland led 7-11 at the end of the first quarter and 13-20 at the half.
Prairie came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring the Huskies 15-3 to take a 28-23 lead into the fourth quarter.
Each team scored 5 points in the fourth quarter.
Aubree Rehder and Nadia Cash led the Pirates with 9 points apiece. Erica Schlader scored 6, Halee Rowland 5 and Avery Riener 4.

The new shot clocks saw their first action in the girls games last week. The only times it ran down and forced turnovers were once each in the JV and varsity games against Orofino and both times it was Orofino that let the clock expire.
