School Board meets The School Board held their May meeting on Monday, May 19. They approved Amber Nuxoll for hire as a paraprofessional at the Elementary School. She will fill the spot formerly held by Madison Shears. They also approved the use of the school’s football equipment at the upcoming football camp for the high school players. This year the camp will be at the College of Idaho in Caldwell. The camp they have attended for several years at Montana Tech in Butte conflicted with the last week of school. Another portion of the policy manual was reviewed. Superintendent Jon Rehder had made some notes and board member Casey Forsmann had read through it and provided some notes as well. The second reading was tabled to the June meeting to give the rest of the board time to review the suggested changes. In the Junior/Senior High report Matt Elven noted the ISAY and MAP testing has been completed except for some makeups. He is waiting for statewide results on the ISAT to see how well Prairie fared. He said he prefers the MAP to the ISAT. Junior high track season finished up May 8 with an end of the year party held on May 15 at the track. The FFA awards banquet at Grangeville went well on May 6. Prairie will host this banquet next year. High School track sent a record 23 athletes to state with the boys and girls teams each bringing home second place trophies. Upcoming events for the Jr./Sr. High include: 6th grade tour on May 20. PHS Cheer Tryouts on May 21. Prairie League will hold their awards banquet on May 22 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. In the Elementary Principal report, Rehder noted his summative evaluations have been completed. The final R# assembly of the year was held on May 2. They will have an awards assembly on the last day of school, June 5. The Elementary Concert is set for Friday, May 30 at 1 p.m. The Idaho Reading Indicator was administered on several days in May. He included results in his report. ISATs have been going on all month and will be completed this week. He shared some results of the testing already completed. Rehder also shared a list of upcoming events with several field trips listed. In his facilities report he noted that due to the popularity, they will get pickleball lines painted in the Auxiliary Gym prior to refinishing the floor. It will cost $2000 to paint two courts worth of lines with donations covering the cost. Gym floors are to be refinished June 29-July 2. They will begin painting the high school the week of June 9. Touch of Glass is renting a 60 foot lift for use when they replace windows at a cost of $4,000 for a month. The district will pay $1000 of that to use for the painting project. Touch of Glass will use it the rest of the month for the window project. Rick Forsmann is working on pricing to fix water pipes at the high school. Rehder said he would also like to revisit the gym foyer project. He would like to look at bidding it out again in November. This is not a need, but a want. He feels updating the restrooms would definitely be a positive. Board chairman Aaron Hinkelman asked that this be put on the agenda for the June meeting. In his superintendent’s report Rehder said all board members need to take Literacy Intervention Training. He will provide a link to board members. Casey Forsmann has already gone through it and said it takes about an hour. Sydney Shears will be working with Rick Forsmann and David Shears as summer help again this year. Due to conflicts neither Rehder or Denise Uhlenkott were able to attend the legislative roadshow this year. In hires for next year, Rehder said Elven and Tori Decaria will be interviewing this week to hire Mari Kerley’s replacement. They may need to hire another paraprofessional at the elementary school due to student needs coming in. The meeting adjourned to an executive session at 7:45 p.m. The next regular meeting is set for Monday, June 16 at 7 p.m.
