Patriots split with Deary
The St. John Bosco Patriots hosted Deary in a quad on Tuesday, Dec. 9. The boys varsity beat Deary 43-37 while the girls lost 29-47.
Girls vs. Deary
The Lady Patriots got off to a hot start as they jumped out to a 14-2 lead. Miah Mager started things off with a 3-pointer and then added a 2-pointer for a 5-0 lead. After Deary scored Savannah Perrin scored a basket, Catherine Beckman made a 3, Catherine Seubert scored a short jumper and Perrin added another basket to make it 14-2.
Deary then scored 6 straight points, all at the free throw line. Bosco then closed out the first quarter with a basket each by Seubert and Madeline Wassmuth for an 18-8 lead.
As hot as Bosco was in the first quarter, they were the opposite in the second as they were outscored 0-8 as Deary closed within 2 points by halftime.
The Patriots managed just 6 shots in the quarter as Deary forced 9 turnovers.
Wassmuth broke the scoring drought to open the third quarter but then Deary went on a 2-12 run with Bosco’s only points being a putback by Seubert. Deary took their first lead at the 4:20 mark at 22-24 and never gave it back.
They went up 22-28 before Brianne Nuxoll made a pair of free throws. Deary answered with 3 free throws. The fourth attempt was their first miss of the game at the line after making their first 13 attempts.
Seubert and Perrin each scored to cut the lead to 3 at 28-31 but Deary scored 2 more free throws for a 28-33 lead after 3 quarters.
Deary then dominated the fourth quarter 1-14 as they pulled away to win by 18.
About the only thing of note in the final quarter was Perrin getting injured with 2:21 left to play.
Seubert wound up as the leading scorer with 8 points. Perrin scored 6 while Wassmuth and Mager scored 5 each. Beckman scored 3 and Nuxoll scored 2.
Rebounding was even at 34 each. Seubert had 11 to lead the Patriots.
Wassmuth lead in steals with 4 and Beckman and Mager each had 2 assists.
The Patriots were 12 for 46 from the field, 26%. They were 8 for 14 in the first quarter and 4 for 32 the rest of the game. They were 3 for 8 at the line, 38%. Deary was 15 for 52 from the field, 29%, and 17 for 18 at the line, 94%.
The Lady Patriots two games scheduled with Asotin on Dec. 11 and 13 were both cancelled.
The girls are now 3-2 on the season and 1-2 in league play.
The JV girls won a 2-quarter game 13-10.
Deary scored the first 5 points then Bosco answered with 7 straight. Beckman scored a 3 and a 2 to tie it and Mager put Bosco ahead 7-5 at the end of the first quarter.
Deary took a 7-9 lead in the second quarter but Teagan Dieseldorff scored on an inbounds feed from Seubert to tie it. Wassmuth then put the Patriots ahead with 2 free throws. Seubert added a driving lay-up for a 13-9 lead with 2:10 to play. Deary added a free throw with 1:12 left for the final point of the game.
Beckman led the scoring with 5 points. Dieseldorff, Mager, Seubert and Wassmuth each scored 2.
The JV’s had a 25-19 edge on the boards. Wassmuth had 6 to lead the Patriots.
Wassmuth had 2 assists and Mager, Tess Goeckner and Seubert each had 1 assist.
The JV’s were 5 for 26 from the field, 19%, and 2 for 2 at the line, 100%. Deary was 4 for 26 from the field, 15%, and 1 for 2 at the line, 50%.

Boys vs. Deary
The boys game saw Bosco lead most of the game except for a stretch in the third quarter.
Deary took the early lead at 0-2 and 1-4. A basket each by Nathan Wassmtuh and Ignatius Parmentier tied to at 5. Parmentier then made a 3 to give Bosco their first lead of the game at 8-5.
After a Deary free throw henry Baldwin scored to make it 10-6. After a Deary basket, Cody Weckman scored from 15 feet to make it 12-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Parmentier opened the second quarter scoring with a basket and 2 free throws for a 16-8 lead.
Deary then came back with a 2-10 run to tie the game at 18. Connor Nuxoll made 2 free throws in the final seconds to give Bosco a 20-18 halftime lead.
Wassmuth and Nuxoll each scored to open the second half and give Bosco a 24-18 lead. Deary then answered back with a 0-13 run to take a 24-31 lead. Nuxoll broke the scoring drought with a baskets and Parmentier followed with a steal and lay-up at the buzzer to make it 28-31 after 3.
Bosco opened the fourth quarter with 8 straight to retake the lead. Weckman scored from the baseline. Baldwin scored 2 baskets and Tommy Rose added a putback to make I 36-31.
Deary came back to tie it at 37 with 2:15 to play. Weckman hit a shot bank shot to give Bosco the lead for good. He added a 3-pointer and then Rose closed out the scoring with a free throw.
Weckman and Parmentier each scored 11 to lead the Patriots. Baldwin and Nuxoll added 7 each. Wassmuth scored 4 and Rose 3.
Bosco had a 30-29 edge on the boards led by Parmentier who had 7. Wassmuth added 6 rebounds.
Weckman had 4 steals and 4 assists to lead the team while Rose also had 4 steals.
The Patriots were 17 for 57 from the field, 30%, and 7 for 10 at the line, 70%. Deary was 15 for 33 from the field, 45%, and 7 for 15 at the line, 47%.
The Patriots are now 1-2 both overall and in league play.
Bosco also won the boys JV game making it 3 out of 4 on the night. They won 58-23.
Bosco outscored Deay 25-0 in the first quarter thanks in large part to Joey Waters who hit 8 of 9 shots including a 3 for 17 first quarter points. John Seubert added 4 while Siman Hagen and Dominic Uhlenkott scored 2 each.
Deary finally got on the board with 4 points to open the second quarter. The Mustangs outscored the Patriots 7-18 in the quarter to cut their deficit to 14 at 32-18 by halftime. Pierce Frei scored 2 baskets for Bosco in the quarter while Hagen scored a basket and Will Sonnen added a free throw.
The Patriots bounced back in the third quarter by outscoring Deary 9-1. Sonnen scored 2 baskets while Waters and Uhlenkott scored 1 basket each and Hagen added a free throw.
Deary scored the first 2 points and the last 2 points in the fourth quarter but Bosco scored 17 points in between to invoke the running clock for the final 3:16 of the game. Seubert scored 8 points in the final quarter including a 3. Parmentier added 6, also with a 3. Hagen made 2 free throws and Sonnen made 1 free throw.
Waters led the scoring with 19 points while Seubert was also in double figures with 12. Hagen scored 7 with Sonnen and Parmentier adding 6 each. Uhlenkott and Frei each scored 4.
Sonnen had 12 rebounds to lead the Patriots to a 33-30 edge on the boards.
Waters had 5 steals while Anthony Frei, Seubert, Parmentier and Hagen had 3 each. Seubert had 4 assists to lead the team.
Bosco was 24 for 56 from the field, 43%, and 7 for 12 at the line, 58%. Deary was 9 for 36 from the field 25%, and 3 for 5 at the line, 60%.
