Patriot boys win 2, girls lose 2
The St. John Bosco boys and girls basketball teams each played 2 games last week. The boys won both as they beat Salmon River 53-37 at Cottonwood on Tuesday, Dec. 16 and Genesee 75-43 on Thursday, Dec. 18, also at Cottonwood. The girls lost 24-56 to Highland at Craigmont on Tuesday, Dec. 16 and 33-62 to Genesee on Thursday, Dec. 18 at Cottonwood.
Girls at Highland
The Lady Patriots are now down two players who were projected starters at the start of the season. Bosco scored first at Highland as Catherine Seubert scoring off an inbounds feed from Madeline Wassmuth. Highland then scored the next 13 straight points.
Miah Mager broke the run with a pair of free throws. Mager and Catherine Beckman each scored a midrange shot to cut the deficit to 8-13. Highland then closed the first quarter with a 2-6 run with Mager scoring Bosco’s basket. Highland led 10-19 going into the second quarter.
Highland opened the second quarter with a free throw then Bosco got back within 6 on a basket each by Seubert and Mager. Highland answered with a free throw and a basket. Mager scored again then Highland scored 2 baskets. Wassmuth scored a free throw then Highland closed the half with 2 baskets for a 17-31 lead.
Bosco was outscored 5-13 in the third quarter with Wassmuth scoring a pair of baskets and Beckman a free throw.
The fourth quarter was worse as they were outscored 2-12 with Mager scoring Bosco’s only basket.
Mager led the Patriots in scoring with 12 points while Wassmuth scored 5, Seubert 4 and Beckman 3.
The Patriots were competitive on the boards as they were outrebounded just 38-41. Wassmuth led the Patriots with 13 rebounds.
Seubert and Wassmuth each had 2 steals and Wassmuth had 3 assists.
The Patriots were 10 for 40 from the field, 25%, and 4 for 16 at the line, also 25%. Highland was 24 for 63 from the field, 38%, and 8 for 11 at the line, 72%.

Girls vs. Genesee
It was another tough game for the Lady Patriots against Genesee. Genesee scored the first 6 points of the game. Seubert scored at the 5:44 mark to get Bosco on the scoreboard. After another 5 points by Genesee, Seubert scored a putback to make it 4-12.
After another 5 straight by Genesee, Beckman drove in for a bank shot to make it 6-17. Genesee then scored another 5 straight for a 6-25 lead at the end of the first quarter. Genesee had five 3-pointers in the opening frame.
Genesee scored the first 4 of the second quarter before Beckman hit a 3 and then added to free throws as Bosco held Genesee scoreless for over 3 minutes as they cut the deficit to 13-29. Genesee then broke their drought with a basket and a 3 before Tess Goeckner hit a bank shot. After another 3 by Genesee, Wassmuth hit a bank shot at the buzzer to make it 17-37 at the half.
Mager opened the second half scoring with a 3 but Genesee then scored 16 straight points to take a 22-53 lead.
Bosco rallied back some with 2 baskets by Teagen Dieseldorff and a putback by Wassmuth to make it 26-53. Genesee then scored again to make it 26-55 after 3 quarters.
Genesee opened the fourth quarterscoring with a 3 which invoked the running clock with 7:35 to play. Beckman made her second 3 of the game and added 2 more baskets in the quarter to get the final margin back under 30.
Beckman scored 16 points to lead the Patriots in scoring. Seubert, Wassmuth and Dieseldorff scored 4 each while Mager scored 3 and Goeckner scored 2.
Bosco had a 44-37 edge on the boards led by Wassmuth who had 11 rebounds. Seubert added 9.
Beckman had 3 steals and Brianne Nuxoll and Wassmuth each had 2 assists.
The Patriots were 14 for 57 from the field, 25%, and 2 for 2 at the line, 100%. Genesee was 26 for 63 from the field, 41%, and 0 for 3 at the line. They had ten 3-pointers in the game.
The Lady Patriots end the 2025 portion of their season with a record of 3-4, 1-4 in league play.

Boys vs. Salmon River
The Patriots picked up a non-league home win against Salmon River.
The Savages scored first with a 3 but Bosco countered with a basket each by Connor Nuxoll, Ignatius Parmentier and Henry Baldwin to take a 6-5 lead that they never surrendered.
Salmon River scored to close within 1 but Tommy Rose scored a putback, Parmentier drove for a lay-up and Nathan Wassmuth added a lay-up to make it 12-5.
After a 3-point play by Salmon River, the Patriots closed out the first quarter with a 3 by Rose for a 15-8 lead.
The teams pretty much traded baskets in the second quarter with Parementier scoring a pair of baskets while Rose, Wassmuth and Cod Weckman scored 1 each. Weckman’s came with 1 minute left to give Bosco a 25-15 lead at the half.
Nuxoll started the second half scoring with a basket. A a Slamon River basket, Wassmuth and Rose each scored for a 15 point lead. Two Salmon River baskets bracketed a basket by Nuxoll then Bosco scored 4 straight on 2 free throws by Wassmuth and a lay-up by Joey Waters for make it 37-20.
Salmon River then closed the third quarter with a 2-4 run as Baldwin scored the Patriots 2. Bosco led 39-24 after 3 quarters.
The Savages tried to cut into the lead in the fourth quarter and were able to get it down to 12 at 3 different times. Mostly the Patriots responded to each Salmon River score. Baldwin and Wassmuth each scored a baskets and Waters scored twice. Salmon River’s final time within 12 was at 47-35. Will Sonnen then hit a 3 pointer. That was followed by a free throw by Rose and 2 free throws by John Seubert as the Patriots pushed the lead back to 18. Salmon River scored the final basket of the game.
Rose and Wassmuth each scored 10 to lead the Patriots. Wassmuth had a double-double with 12 rebounds to lead the Patriots. Parmentier added 8 points while Baldwin, Nuxoll and Waters each scored 6. Sonnen scored 3 and Weckman and Seubert each scored 2.
Bosco had a 45-33 advantage on the boards.
Weckman had 3 steals and 5 assists to lead in both categories.
The Patriots were 23 for 53 from the field, 49%, and 5 for 9 at the line, 56%. Salmon River was 15 for 60 from the field, 25%, and 4 for 12 at the line, 33%.
The JV team played the Lapwai C team and won their game 64-56.

Vs. Genesee
The first quarter against Genesee was back and forth and that continued until the final 1:30 of the half. Then the Patriots began to pull away.
Nuxoll opened the scoring for the game but Genesee answered with a 3. Weckman put the Patriots back on top 4-3 with a drive but Genesee then scored 5 straight. A basket inside by Wassmuth and a 3 by Parmentier put the Patriots back on top.
Genesee took back the lead but 2 baskets by Nuxoll had Bosco up 13-10. Genesee came back with a basket and a 3-point play to retake the lead. Weckman tied it with a free throw to end the quarter at 14-14.
Baldwin got hot in the second quarter as he scored Bosco’s first 8 points. Meanwhile Noah Bollman got hot for Genesee as he scored all 13 points for them in the quarter. He had the Bulldogs up 22-25 with 3:22 left in the half. Pierce Frei scored a putback then Bollman scored again. Bosco then closed out the first half with an 8-0 run. Nuxoll and Baldwin each scored a basket to put Bosco back on top. Wassmuth then scored on an inbounds feed from Waters and then added a putback at the buzzer for a 32-27 halftime lead.
Nuxoll scored to open the third quarter. Weckman and Baldwin each scored as but Genesee answered all 3 times, the last with a 3 to get within 4 at 38-34. Wassmuth then scored and Weckman added 2 baskets to push the lead to 10 at 44-34.
A Genesee baskets was answered by a basket by Parmentier and a 3 by Weckman. A Genesee free throw was answered by a basket and 2 free throws by Weckman as Bosco took a 53-37 lead into the fourth quarter.
Bosco opened the fourth with a 10-0 run to take a 63-37 lead. Frei had 2 baskets in the run while Parmentier, Wassmuth and Nuxoll had 1 each.
Genesee scored a basket and 2 free throws but Bosco answered with a lay-up each by Parmentier and Waters. Genesee scored but Bosco then scored the final 8 points of the game. Malachi Graham-Pile scored and then Sonnen scored the final 3 baskets as the final minute was played with a running clock. The Patriots were 11 for 15 from the field in the fourth quarter and 20 for 30 in the second half as they blew the game open.
Weckman wound up as the leading scorer for the Patriots with 16 points. Baldwin and Nuxoll each scored 12 and Wassmuth added 10. Parmentier almost made it 5 players in double figures as he scored 9. Frei and Sonnen scored 6 each while Waters and Graham-Pile scored 2 each.
Bosco had a 34-32 edge on the boards. Parmentier led the Patriots with 7 rebounds while Wassmuth and Nuxoll had 6 each.
Weckman had 6 steals while Baldwin had 4 and Wassmuth 3. Weckman had 7 assists and Parmentier had 4.
The Patriots were 35 for 65 from the field, 54%, and 3 for 6 at the line 50%. Genesee was 17 for 52 from the field, 33%, and 5 for 6 at the line, 83%.
The Patriots are now 3-2 on the season and 2-2 in league play.
