Wrestlers compete at Orofino Tournament Prairie competed at the Orofino Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 4 where they conducted separate girls and boys tournaments. In the boys tournament Prairie scored 4 points as a team and finished 10th. In the girls tournament Prairie scored 12 points and finished 8th. Avery Schacher was the only girls competing for Prairie and finished 2nd in the Pod weight class. There were only 3 wrestlers between 132 and 235 lbs. and they got thrown into this weight class. Schacher received a first round bye then lost by pin in 58 seconds to Ciel Sattler of Lapwai, who wound up in first place. In her second match she wound up winning by pin in 27 seconds over Chlore Miller of McCall-Donnelly. She earned 6 points each for the bye win and the win by pin to account for the team’s 12 points. Zachary Schumacher competed at 126 lbs. in the boys tournament. He lost by pin in 1:02 in his first round match against Jacob Vale of Lewiston. In his second match he was eliminated from further competition by Arliss Bray of Pomeroy, who won by pin in 42 seconds. Jake Quintal picked up the boys only win. Competing at 190 lbs. he won by pin over Ryker McKeirnan of Clarkston in 4:53. In the semifinals he lost by pin in 1:56 to Zack Sotin of St. Maries. In the consolation round he lost by technical fall, 0-15, to Avery Riggs of McCall-Donnelly. Prairie’s next competition is this Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Lapwai. On Friday, Jan. 10, they will be at the Andrew Beck Invitational at Grangeville.  Avery Schacher is about to pin her McCall-Donnelly opponent which earned her second place in her weight class.  Jake Quintal goes up against a Clarkston wrestler. He won the match by pin.  Zach Schumacher goes up against a wrestler from Pomeroy. He wound up getting pinned.
