Pirates win twice
The Prairie Pirates’ winning streak came to an end as they fell to Logos at Moscow 43-60 on Saturday, Jan. 13.
They were scheduled to play at C.V. on Thursday, Jan. 11, but that game was postponed due to icy road conditions. It has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 23 with thBriggs Rambo got the nod to start at Logos with  Riley Shears out due to injury.e JVs to play at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity at 7:15. C.V. will have a girls game in between.
Logos scored first in the game then Lee Forsmann sank a 3-point shot for what turned out to be Prairie’s only lead of the game. Seamus Wilson of Logos answered with the first of his six three pointers in the game.
Briggs Rambo, starting in place of Riley Shears who suffered a concussion in the Genesee game, tied it with a lay-up. Logos then finished off the first quarter with 11 straight points to take a 5-16 lead at the quarter break.
Logos added another 3 to start the second quarter before Noah Behler broke the scoring drought with a free throw. That kicked off a 10-4 scoring run by the Pirates. Rambo followed with a short hook shot. After a Logos basket, Behler scored a putback. After another Logos baskets, Rambo banked in a 3-pointer and Forsmann made 2 free throws to cut the deficit to 15-23. A 3 by Logos was followed by 2 more free throws from Forsmann. Logos then closed out the half with 11 straight points for a 17-37 halftime lead.
The Pirates fell behind by as many as 23 in the third quarter at 23-46. They then ended the quarter with 5 straight to trail 28-46 at the end of the period. Forsmann made 2 free throws and Trenton Lorentz made the second of 2 free throws and then finished off the scoring in the quarter with a transition dunk.
Logos outscored Prairie 4-11 to open the fourth quarter and take a 32-57 lead, their biggest of the game. Prairie was able to outscore the Knights 11-3 the rest of the way. Forsmann scored a lay-up and Matt Wemhoff sank a 10-footer from the baseline. Logos made their 11th 3-pointer of the game for their final points then Prairie scored the game’s final 7 points. Logan Weber converted a 3-point play, Rambo scored on a feed from Weber and Nate Forsmann made 2 free throws to cut the final margin to 17.
Lee Forsmann and Rambo each scored 11 to lead the Pirates in scoring. Lorentz and Behler scored 7 each. Weber scored 3 and Wemhoff and Nate Forsmann scored 2 each.
Logos had a 23-29 edge on the boards. Lee Forsmann had 7 to lead the Pirates.
Rambo and Lorentz each had 3 steals and Behler had 3 assists while Weber and Lee Forsmann had 2 each.
Prairie was 15 for 39 from the field, 38%, and 11 for 17 at the line, 65%. Logos was 21 for 43 from the field, 49%, and 7 for 14 at the line, 50%.
Prairie is now 4-5 on the season and 1-5 in league play.
In the JV game Prairie played Logos close until the final 9 minutes when Logos pulled away to win 31-51.
Prairie scored first on a basket by Levi Gehring but Logos then sank three 3-pointers in a 2-11 run to take a 4-11 lead. Prairie then responded with 6 straight points to get back within 1. Chase VonBargen started the run with a 3-pointer. Nate Forsmann then made a free throw and a putback to make it 10-11.
Logos then scored 4 straight to take a 10-15 lead into the second quarter.
Gehring scored a pair of baskets to get Prairie back within 1 at 14-15.
Prairie trailed 16-20 when Phil Schwartz scored on a 2-pointer and followed with a 3 to give Prairie a 21-20 lead. Logos made a pair of free throws to take a 21-22 lead at the half.
Ben Secrest scored on an inbounds feed from Max Rehder to put Prairie on top 23-22 to start the second half and then added a free throw to give Prairie their biggest lead at 24-22. Logos scored 4 straight to retake the lead but Kade Quintal tied it with a short bank shot. A Logos 3 put them back into the lead
but Nate Forsmann scored a perimeter shot to cut the lead to 28-29 with 1:15 left in the third quarter.
From that point on Logos took total control of the game. They scored the last 6 points of the third quarter to take a 28-35 lead into the fourth.
They then scored the first 4 of the fourth until Secrest made a free throw to break Prairie’s scoring drought. Logos then scored 6 more until Jackson Enneking made 2 free throws. Logos then scored the game’s final 6 points. Over the final 9 minutes of the game Logos outscored Prairie 3-22 with Prairie’s only points coming at the free throw line.
Gehring wound up as the leading scorer with 8 points. VonBargen, Forsmann and Schwartz each scored 5. Secrest scored 4 and Enneking and Quintal scored 2 each.
Logos had a 30-33 edge on the boards. VonBargen led the Pirates with 8 rebounds while Gehring had 6.
Gehring had 5 steals and VonBargen and Rehder each had 2 assists.
Prairie was 12 for 45 from the field, 27%, and 5 for 10 at the line, 50%. Logos was 17 for 36 from the field, 47%, and 12 for 23 at the line, 52%.
