Patriots girls, boys each are 1-1 on the week
The St. John Bosco boys and girls basketball teams both won at Timberline but both lost at Nezperce in action last week. On Tuesday, Jan. 16, the girls won 43-17 at Timberline while the boys edged the Spartans 45-43. On Thursday, Jan. 18, the girls lost 32-42 at Nezperce while the boys lost 59-68.
Girls at Timberline
The girls game at Timberline started slow as it was tied at just 4-4 with 1:48 left in the opening quarter. Raylie Warren then converted a 3-point play to give Bosco a 7-4 lead at the end of the period.
Warren added a lay-up to open the second quarter scoring. After a Timberline basket, Noelle Chmelik and Audrey Warren each scored to make it 13-6.
After another Timberline basket, Bosco closed out the first half with a 7-0 run. Vivian Dahlsrud scored a lay-up, Sarah Waters scored on a 3-point shot and Audrey Warren added a lay-up for a 20-8 halftime lead.
Timberline scored to open the third quarter then it was a 6-0 run for Bosco. Savannah Perrin drove in for a lay-up and then a minute and a half later stole the ball and drove for another lay-up. Julia Wassmuth scored to make it 26-10.
After a Timberline free throw, Waters scored a pair of baskets to make it 30-11 at the end of the third quarter.
Timberline scored a pair of baskets in the opening 2 minutes of the fourth quarter, bracketing a basket by Perrin, Bosco then went on a 7-0 run with Waters scoring 2 free throws and a basket and Raylie Warren hitting a 3-pointer for a 39-15 lead with 3:15 to play. Timberline scored a basket then Waters and Wassmuth each scored to close out the game.
Waters had 15 point to lead the Patriots in scoring. Raylie Warren scored 8 with Perrin and Wassmuth scoring 6 each. Audrey Warren scored 4 and Dahlsrud and Chmelik scored 2 each.
Bosco had a 41-32 edge on the boards. Perrin and Water each had 8 rebounds while Raylie Warren had 7.
Waters had 7 steals and 4 assists while Audrey Warren had 4 steals and 4 assists.
The Patriots were 19 for 57 from the field, 33%, and 3 for 11 at the line, 27%. Timberline was 8 for 40 from the field, 20%, and 1 for 4 at the line, 25%.
This game did not count in the league standings as Timberline is not playing a full league schedule this season.

Boys at Timberline
The Patriots earned a season split with Timberline by pulling out a 2-point win.
Bosco got off to a strong start as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Levi Wassmuth had a pair of baskets and Conner Nuxoll and Sam Weckman each added a basket. After Timberline cracked the scoreboard at the 3:49 mark, Cody Weckman made 2 free throws. After a second Timberline basket, Nathan Wassmuth converted a 3-point play for a 13-4 lead. Timberline added a free throw to make it 13-5 at the end of the quarter.
The two teams traded baskets through the first 4 minutes of second quarter as each Timberline basket was answered by a Patriot basket. After Sam Weckman scored to make it 19-11, Timberline put together a 0-6 run to cut the lead to 19-17.
A steal by Levi Wassmuth broke the run. Levi scored again after a Timberline basket to make it 23-19. Timberline scored in the final seconds to make it 23-21 at the half.
Timberline tied it to open the second half but Bosco responded with a free throw and a layup by Levi Wassmuth. Another Timberline score was answered with a basket by Sam Weckman and a free throw by Nathan Wassmuth.
Timberline then scored a basket to make it 29-26 after 3 quarters.
Stallone Hoene scored to keep Bosco on top but then Timberline hit a 3-pointer to tie it. Hoene put Bosco back on top but another 3 gave Timberline their first lead of the game with 5:42 to play.
Cody Weckman put the Patriots back on top with a midrange shot but Timberline then had a 1-6 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 36-40 with 2:53 left.
Hoene sank 2 free throws and Levi Wassmuth stole the ball and scored to tie it a 40 with 1:30 to play.
Timberline took back the lead with a 3-pointer with 1:15 left but that turned out to be their final points. A defensive rebound by Sam Weckman led to a basket by Nathan Wassmuth to cut the deficit to 1 point. With 13 seconds left Cody Weckman scored the go-ahead basket after stealing the ball and driving to the hoop. Levi Wassmuth added a free throw to make it a 2-point final margin.
Levi Wassmuth scored 16 to lead all scorers. Hoene scored 8, Sam Weckman 7, Cody Weckman and Nathan Wassmuth 6 each and Nuxoll 2.
Timberline had a 32-42 rebounding edge. Levi Wassmuth had 9 to lead the Patriots.
Cody Weckman had 5 steals while Levi Wassmuth had 4. Hoene had 3 assists.
The Patriots were 21 for 62 from the field, 34%, and 9 for 19 at the line, 47%. Timberline was 18 for 47 from the field, 38%, and 4 for 12 at the line, 33%.

Girls at Nezperce
The Lady Patriots ran into a Nighthawks team celebrating their Senior Night and lost after having won against Nezperce earlier this season.
The Patriots came out strong as they took a 12-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. Nezperce came back in the second quarter to outscore the Patriots 9-13 to pull within 2 at the half, 21-19.
The Nighthawks then dominated the third quarter, outscoring Bosco 2-12 to take a 23-31 lead into the fourth quarter. Nezperce edge the Patriots 9-11 in the fourth quarter to make the final margin of 10 points.
Waters led the Patriots in scoring with 19 points. Wassmuth scored 5, Raylie Warren 3 and Dahlsrud and Miah Mager added 2 each.
The Lady Patriots are now 2-2 in league play and 6-4 overall.

Boys at Nezperce
The Patriots lost to Nezperce for the second time this season.
Nezperce jumped all over the Patriots in the opening quarter as they took a 9-19 lead.
Nezperce extended the lead to 21-38 by halftime and 35-53 after 3 quarters.
The Patriots rallied in the fourth, outscoring the Nighthawks 24-15, but could only cut the margin down to 9.
Levi Wassmuth had his highest scoring game of the year with 27 points to lead all scorers. Sam Weckman added 9 points with Cody Weckman adding 8, Hoene 7, Nathan Wassmuth 4, Noah Beckman 3 and Tommy Rose 1.
The Patriots are now 3-9 on the season and 1-5 in league play.
