Pirates win 1 of 3
The Prairie Pirates lost two of three league games this past week. On Tuesday, Jan. 23, they traveled to C.V. to makeup a game postponed by bad road conditions and won 56-53. On Thursday, Jan. 25, they hosted Kamiah and lost 40-50. On Friday, Jan. 26, they traveled to Potlatch and lost 32-48.
At C.V.
The game at C.V. was close all the way despite the Pirates missing two starters.
C.V. scored first on a 3 pointer. Noah Behler answered with a lay-up. After a C.V. basket, Prairie took their first lead as Lee Forsmann scored 5 straight points. He made a free throw then hit a pair of lay-ups for a 7-5 lead.
C.V. scored 4 to retake the lead but a 3 by Matt Wemhoff put Prairie back on top. Behler added a lay-up to make it 12-9. After a C.V. free throw, Behler sank a 3 to make it 15-10. Forsmann answered a C.V. free throw with a la-up to make it 17-12 with 3:01 left in the quarter.
C.V. scored the final 5 points of the quarter to tie the game up at 17.
Logan Weber opened the second quarter scoring with a short jumper but C.V. tied it. Nate Forsmann scored a putback but C.V. tied it again with 2 free throws. A lay-up by Behler gave Prairie a 23-21 lead but C.V. answered with 6 straight to take a 23-27 lead.
Briggs Rambo scored a midrange jumper but C.V. then scored 4 straight to take a 25-31 lead with 45 seconds left in the half. Lee Forsmann and Phil Schwartz then each hit a 3 to tie the score at 31 at the half.
C.V. scored the first 4 points of the second half before Lee Forsmann converted a 3-point play. C.V. then converted their own 3-point play but Schwartz then answered with a 3-pointer. A C.V. basket was answered by Schwartz. Another basket by C.V. was answered by a 3-point play by Lee Forsmann that tied the scored at 42. Levi Gehring then scored a free throw to give Prairie a 43-42 lead after 3 quarters.
C.V. tied it with a free throw to open the fourth but Lee Forsmann then converted his third 3-point play of the half. A C.V. basket was answered by a 3 by Lee Forsmann for a 49-45 lead. C.V. then scored 6 straight points to take their final lead of the game at 49-51 with 4:26 to play.
A 3-point play by Rambo with 4:13 put Prairie back on top. Rambo added a turn-around jump shot to make it 54-51 with 2:51 left.
C.V. got back within 1 with a basket but Behler made 2 free throws with 31 seconds left to give Prairie their final 3-point margin of victory.
Lee Forsmann led all scorers with 22 points. Behler added 11 while Schwartz scored 8, Rambo 7, Wemhoff 3, Weber and Nate Forsmann 2 each and Gehring 1.
C.V. had a 34-38 edge on the boards. Wemhoff led the Pirates with 9 rebounds.
Wemhoff had 3 steals and 4 assists.
Prairie was 21 for 52 from the field, 40%, and 8 for 14 at the line, 57%. C.V. was 20 for 52 from the field, 38%, and 10 for 19 at the line, 53%.
Prairie also won the 2-quarter JV game 30-21.
A basket by Chase VonBargen and a 3 by Collin Ray gave Prairie a 5-0 lead. C.V. then scored 6 straight to take the lead. A basket by Caden Armbrust put Prairie back on top. He added another basket and Jackson Enneking closed out the first quarter with a basket on an inbounds feed from Ray for an 11-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
C.V. scored to open the second quarter then Nate Forsmann sank back to back 3’s and added a putback for a 19-8 lead. Levi Gehring stole the ball and scored to make it 21-8 with 4:43 left.
C.V. answered with 8 straight points to get back within 5 at 21-16 before VonBargen sank a 3 to put Prairie up by 8.
After a C.V. free throw Forsmann and Enneking each scored to give Prairie a 28-17 lead. A C.V. basket was answered by a lay-up from Forsmann with 15 seconds left to make it 30-19.
C.V. scored at the buzzer to cut the final margin to 9.
Forsmann scored 12 to lead the JVs in scoring. VonBargen scored 5. Enneking and Armbrust scored 4 each while Ray scored 3 and Gehring scored 2.
C.V. had an 11-16 edge on the boards. Enneking, Max Rehder and Forsmann each had 2 to lead Prairie.
Gehring had 5 steals and 3 assists.
Prairie was 13 for 29 from the field, 45%, and 0 for 2 at the line. C.V. was 9 for 18 from the field, 50%, and 1 for 3 at the line, 33%.

Vs. Kamiah
Prairie played Kamiah tough for 3 quarters as the were tied at 13 after 1 quarter, trailed 21-27 at the half and led 38-36 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Pirates could muster just 2 points in the fourth quarter though as Kamiah outscored them by 12 to pull out a 10-point win.
Behler led the Pirates in scoring with 12 points with Wemhoff scoring 11. Schwartz scored 6, Rambo 5, Lee Forsmann 4 and Riley Shears 2. Shears was in his first action since suffering a head injury against Genesee.
Prairie won the JV game 56-51.

At Potlatch
In the game at Potlatch Prairie fell behind by as many as 13 in the first half and rallied back within 5 in the third quarter only to struggle to score in the fourth quarter. Briggs Rambo puts up a jump shot at Potlatch.
Prairie held an early lead as Lee Forsmann scored the game’s first points. After Potlatch tied it, Behler sank a 3-pointer for a 5-2 lead. Potlatch then scored 8 straight points and never trailed again.
Lee Forsmann broke the run with a 3 but Potlatch then scored 9 straight to take an 8-19 lead into the second quarter.
Lee Forsmann opened the second quarter with 2 free throws. After a Potlatch basket, Weber scored a putback. After another Potlatch basket, Rambo hit a midrange jumper. Potlatch then scored 4 straight to take a 14-27 lead with 4:44 left in the half.
Rambo and Behler hit back to back 3’s to cut the lead to 7 at 20-27. Potlatch then scored 2 baskets to push their lead back to 11. Behler scored inside in the final seconds to make it 22-31 at the half.
Rambo opened the third quarter scoring with a basket but Potlatch answered. Neither team scored for the next 3 minutes until Schwartz made a pair of free throws. Lee Forsmann followed with a basket to pull the Pirates within 5 at 28-33.
After a Potlatch basket, Rambo scored to again cut the deficit to 5 points with 1:18 left in the third quarter.
Prairie then went ice-cold and Potlatch scored 13 straight points to take a 30-48 lead with 2:12 to play.
Behler broke the 8 minute scoring drought with 1:20 left but those were the final 2 points of the game.
Behler led the team in scoring with 10 points. Rambo and Lee Forsmann scored 9 each while Schwartz and Weber scored 2 each.
Rebounding was even at 32 each. Weber led the Pirates with 11 rebounds while Lee Forsmann had 7.
Lee Forsmann had 2 steals and Schwartz had 4 assists.
Prairie was 12 for 41 from the field, 29%, and 4 for 4 at the line. Potlatch was 21 for 54 from the field, 39%, and 5 for 10 at the line, 50%.
Prairie is now 5-9 overall and 2-9 in league play.
Prairie won the JV game 58-29.
Prairie jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back. Ray started things off with a 3-pointer. Secrest followed with a basket and then VonBargen sank a 3 to make it 8-0.
Potlatch cut the lead to 8-4 then Prairie got a basket each by Enneking, VonBargen and Gehring to make it 14-4.
Potlatch cut the lead to 14-9 with a basket and a 3 but Gehring drove for a lay-up to make it 16-9 at the end of the first quarter.
VonBargen opened the second quarter scoring with a free throw and Gehring followed with a lay-up.
After Potlatch cut the lead to 19-13, Forsmann scored a midrange shot and then converted a 3-point play for a 24-13 lead.
Potlatch answered with 4 straight then Prairie put together a 12-0 run to lead by 19. Quintal opened it with a basket then Gehring scored 3 straight baskets. Forsmann hit a 3 and then added a free throw to make it 36-17.
Forsmann later added a putback against 3 Potlatch points as Prairie led 38-20 at the half.
Forsmann scored a pair of baskets to open the second half and then Quintal hit a 3 to make it 45-20.
After a pair of Potlatch baskets, Cole Duclos hit a free throw and Gehring added a basket to make it 48-24. After a Potlatch free throw, Ray sank a 3 and followed with a free throw for a 52-25 lead.
After a Potlatch basket, Prairie closed out the third quarter with 6 straight points to take a 58-27 lead into the fourth quarter. Forsmann, Armbrust and Secrest each scored.
With the running clock in the fourth quarter, neither side was able to score until Potlatch scored a putback with 2 seconds left.
Forsmann wound up with 17 points to lead the JVs in scoring while Gehring scored 14. Ray scored 7 with VonBargen scoring 6. Quintal scored 5, Secrest 4, Enneking and Armbrust 2 each and Duclos 1.
Prairie had a 32-26 edge on the boards led by VonBargen who had 9 rebounds.
Gehring had 6 steals and 3 assists while VonBargen had 5 steals and Forsmann had 3 assists.
Prairie was 24 for 51 from the field, 47%, and 5 for 11 at the line, 45%. Potlatch was 12 for 37 from the field, 43%, and 4 for 14 at the line, 28%.
