Pirates win twice
The Prairie Pirates won a pair of league road games this past week. On Wednesday, Jan. 28, they traveled to Kamiah and won 47-38 over the Kubs. On Thursday, Jan. 29, they traveled to Moscow and beat Logos 67-44.
At Kamiah
The game at Kamiah was much closer than the one at Prairie where the Pirates won by 33. Riley Shears goes for a lay-up at Kamiah.
Riley Shears got the scoring start with a 3-pointer just 14 seconds into the game. After a Kamiah free throw, Prairie scored 6 straight. Nate Forsmann scored a pair of baskets and Shears hit a turn-around shot to make it 9-1. After a 3 by Kamiah’s Lawson Landmark, Shears cored a putback. After another basket by Kamiah, Shears made a free throw that made it 12-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Kamiah scored to open the second and Shears answered with a basket. After a Kamiah free throw, Patrick scored a lay-up on a lob pass from Chase VonBargen. Max Rehder then banked in a 3 and Schlader made 2 free throws for a 21-9 lead with 3:07 left in the half.
Kamiah fought their way back into the game by closing the half with a 2-9 run. Phil Schwartz scored for Prairie after a steal. It was 23-16 at the half.
Kamiah then opened the second half with 2 free throws to cut their deficit to 5 at 23-18. Prairie answered with 9 straight points. Schlader scored a pair of baskets. Shears scored a lay-up and Rehder hit for 3 on an inbounds play to make it 32-18. Kamiah scored a pir of baskets but a 3 by Shears pushed the lead back to 13. A basket by Kamiah made it 35-24 at the end of the third quarter.
Kamiah tried to rally in the fourth but Prairie was able to score enough to hold them off. Kamiah opened the fourth quarter with a basket but Prairie answered with a basket by Kade Quintal and a 3 by Schwartz. Landmark scored 2 free throws and a 3 to cut the lead to 9 at 40-31. Forsmann answered with a 3-point play. Kamiah made 3 of 4 at the line to again cut the deficit to 9. Prairie answered with a basket each by Shears and Forsmann to make it 47-34 with 1:52 left. Kamiah then scored the final 4 points to make the final margin 9 points.
Shears led all scorers with 17 points while Forsmann scored 9. Schlader scored 8, Redher 6, Schwartz 5 and Quintal 2.
Prairie had a 33-29 edge on the boards led by Schlader who had 12 rebounds.
Schwartz had 3 steals and 6 assists.
Prairie was 19 for 47 from the field, 40%, and 4 for 7 at the line, 57%. Kamiah was 11 for 40 from the field, 28%, and 13 for 16 at the line, 81%.
Kamiah won the JV game 46-47.

At Logos
In the game at Logos, Prairie led 10-4 after 1 period and 25-11 at the half. They led 44-24 after 3 quarters.
Shears led the Pirates inscoring with 15 points while Forsmann scored 12 and Rehder and Schwartz added 10 points each. Quintal and VonBargen scored 7 each while Schlader scored 6.
Prairie is now 11-4 on the season and 8-1 in league play.
Prairie also won the JV game 68-60.
We tried to watch the game on NFHS but it wouldn’t show up at all when it was live and after it was over a thumbnail showed up but it didn’t connect to anything.
