Lady Pirates win twice
The Prairie Lady Pirates finished off their regular season with a pair of league wins. On Tuesday, Jan. 27, they celebrated Senior Night with a 58-21 win over Logos at Cottonwood. On Thursday, Jan. 29, they traveled to Kamiah where the Kubs played Prairie tough as the Pirates had to come from behind for a 34-28 win.
That gave them a first place tie with Lapwai for the league championship at 13-1. Prairie will be the #1 seed at District due to a tie-breaker.
Vs. Logos
On Senior Night Prairie honored 4 seniors: Sydney Shears, Kylie Schumacher, Sage Elven and Hailey Hanson. Beka Schumacher came off the bench to provide an offensive spark for Prairie against Logos.
In the game, Logos came out with intensity on defense and Prairie didn’t score as well as they had at Logos a week earlier.
Kylie Schumacher scored the first points of the game on a putback. Logos tied it then Hanson hit a 3 that put Prairie ahead for good. Shears followed with a basket to make it 7-2 at the 2:47 mark. After a Logos baskets, Beka Schumacher came off the bench to provide an offensive spark. Shears scored a basket and 2 free throws for an 11-4 lead at the end of the quarter. She then scored a putback to open the second quarter scoring. A lay-up by Kylie Schumacher made it 15-4. Two Logos free throws were answered with 2 by Beka Schumacher. Another Logos free throw was answered with a 3-point play by Elven who was fouled on a putback. Logos scored a free throw with 3:07 left in the half to make it 20-8. They wouldn’t score again until the 1:28 mark of the third quarter. Prairie ended the half with 13 straight points. Beka Schumacher scored a pair of baskets while Elven, Kylie Schumacher, Reagan Brannan and Halee Rowland scored 2 each and Erica Schlader scored a free throw as Prairie took a 33-8 halftime lead.
Prairie then scored the first 16 points of the second after to complete a 29-0 run. Schlader and Kylie Schumacher each scored 4 points in that run while Elven, Hanson, Shears and Beka Schumacher each scored 2. After Logos finally scored a free throw to break the run, Brannan hit a 3 to make it 52-9. Logos scored at the buzzer to make it 52-11 after 3 quarters.
In the running clock fourth quarter, Logos outscored Prairie 6-10. Brannan scored 2 baskets and Rowland 1 for Prairie in the quarter.
Beka Schumacher led the scoring with 14 points. Kylie Schumacher scored 10 while Brannan scored 9. Hanson and Schlader scored 5 each while Shears and Rowland scored 4 each.
Logos had a 26-32 edge on the boards. Elven led Prairie with 7 rebounds.
Hanson had 8 steals while Elven had 6. Shears had 5 steals and 3 assists.
Prairie was 23 for 53 from the field, 43%, and 10 for 17 at the line, 59%. Logos was 8 for 25 from the field, 32%, and 5 for 16 at the line, 31%.
In the JV game Prairie won 26-0 in a 2-quarter game. Prairie scored 13 points in each quarter. Faith Cash and Reagan Brannan scored 6 points each to lead the team. Alli Rambo scored 4. Capri Hagen scored 3. Kennedy Riener, Zoey Behler and Lillian Rehder scored 2 each. Blake Uhlenkott scored 1.
Prairie had a 20 to 19 edge on the boards. Rambo and Brannan had 5 each to lead the team.
Hagen, Behler and Cash had 3 steals. 7 different players had 1 assist each.
Prairie was 10 for 40 from the field, 25% and 6 for 10 at the line, 60%. Logos was 0 for 9 from the field and did not attempt a free throw.

At Kamiah
Prairie struggled in their final regular season game at Kamiah. Prairie started well as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Kylie Schumacher scored the game’s first points at the 6:36 mark. A minute later Elven scored a lay-up after a steal by Hanson. Kylie then scored again another minute later. Kamiah finally got on the board at the 2:19 mark with a free throw and followed with a basket, both by Emma Krogh, to cut the lead to 6-3. Kylie Schumacher scored again but Kamiah answered with a lay-up by Krogh to make it 8-5 after 1 quarter.
Kamiah tied the score with a 3 to open the second quarter. Prairie then scored 8 straight for a 16-8 lead. Kylie Schumacher a putback. Shears scored a basket. Kylie connected from midrange and Elven banked in a short shot. Kamiah then answered back with 7 straight points to pull within 1. Kylie scored a free throw to end the half with Prairie up by just 2 at 17-15.
The third quarter was a disaster for Prairie. Kamiah tied it with a basket to open the third quarter. Elven hit a short bank shot to put Prairie back on top at the 5:58 mark. That turned out to be Prairie’s only points of the quarter. Kamiah took the lead with a 3 and added a basket to take a 19-22 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Kamiah scored again to open the fourth quarter for a 19-24 lead. Shears drove across the free throw lane and down the right side of the key for a lay-up to break the scoring drought of 8:38. Kylie Schumacher followed with a drive for a lay-up to get Prairie back within 1. Kamiah scored a couple of free throws to go up by 3 at 23-26. Prairie then scored 8 straight points to retake the lead. Beka Schumacher scored a free throw. Kylie Schumacher hit a midrange shot to tie it at 26. Beka made a free throw for the lead and then added one of her turnaround bank shots. Shears scored on a full court drive after making a defensive rebound for a 31-26 lead. Kamiah broke their scoring drought with 2 free throws to get back within 3. Kylie Schumacher finished off the game with a basket and a free throw for a 6-point win.
Kylie Schumacher provided the bulk of the Pirate offense with 18 points. Shears and Elven scored 6 each and Beka Schumacher scored 4.
Prairie had a 49-40 advantage on the boards. Kylie Schumacher also had a huge day on the boards with 20 rebounds.
Shears had 6 steals and 2 assists while Kylie Schumacher had 3 steals and 2 assists.
Prairie was 15 for 54 from the field, 28%, and 4 for 17 at the line, 24%. Kamiah was 9 for 53 from the field, 17%, and 8 for 17 at the line, 47%.
Prairie finishes their regular season with a record of 16-4 overall and 13-1 in league play.
