Dark Pines Origins is a grounded frontier novel about the making of a man before the legend ever existed. Set in the untamed wilderness of the 19th-century American frontier, the book follows a quiet, nameless boy as he survives hunger, winter, violence, and solitude—learning to read the land, follow trails, and live by a code formed not by law, but by necessity and decency. Before he becomes Dev Sinclair, he is simply a boy shaped by the people he meets, the animals he studies, and the hard choices forced on him by a world that offers no mercy. Dark Pines Origins is a story about survival, restraint, and the kind of strength that leaves no mark—until it has to. Dark Pines Origins began as a way to understand where my modern characters came from. It turned into a story about patience, restraint, and the kind of strength that doesn’t announce itself. It serves as the historical foundation for the modern-day Dark Pines Unit crime series I’m going to be releasing soon, tracing the legacy that carries into the present. ![]() The cover of C.J.
