Pirates win 1 of 2
The Prairie Pirates won 1 of 2 games this past week. On Tuesday, Jan. 28, they traveled to Kamiah and lost 44-62 to the unbeaten Kubs. On Saturday, Feb. 1, they hosted Logos and pulled out a 45-36 win over the Knights.
At Kamiah
Prairie fell behind 0-7 to start the game. Nate Forsmann broke the ice for the Pirates with a lay-up at the 4:48 mark. Briggs Rambo followed with a baseline shot to make it 4-7. Riley Shears puts up a shot in the lane at Kamiah.
Kamiah then scored 6 straight to take a 9-point lead. Rambo and Forsmann each scored then Kamiah finished the first quarter with 5 straight for an 8-18 lead.
Prairie outscored Kamiah 11-5 to open the second quarter and pull within 4. Riley Shears scored to open the quarter and Rambo followed with a putback. Kamiah scored then Phil Schwartz scored a lay-up. A Kamiah 3-pointers was answered by a 3-pointer by Forsmann. Forsmann then scored a tip-in at the 1:33 mark to make it 19-23.
Kamiah then scored another 3 but Forsmann scored a putback to make it 21-26. The Kubs then scored 2 free throws and a basket to take a 21-30 lead at the half.
Kamiah opened the second half with a basket but Rambo answered. @ Kamiah free throws made it 23-24. Prairie then scored 8 straight points. Shears hit an 8 ft. jump shot then Schwartz made back to back 3’s to cut the lead to 31-34.
Kamiah answered with 8 straight to end the third quarter and take a 31-42 lead into the fourth.
Schwartz opened the fourth with a 3 but Kamiah answered with a basket. Forsmann and Rambo each scored a putback to cut the lead to 6. Kamiah answered with a 3. Matt Wemhoff made 2 free throws but Kamiah then went on a 1-12 run to put the game away. A Forsmann free throws was Prairie’s only point in the run. Kamiah led 41-59 with 1:45 to play. Schwartz and Forsmann each scored to cut the lead to 15 but Kamiah got the game’s final points on a 3.
Forsmann led the Pirates with 16 points while Schwartz scored 12 and Rambo 10. Shears scored 4 and Wemhoff scored 2.
Prairie had a 36-25 advantage on the boards led by Rambo with 9 and Forsmann with 8.
Wemhoff had 3 steals and Schwartz had 3 steals.
Prairie was 18 for 43 from the field, 42%, and 4 for 13 at the line, 31%. Kamiah was 21 for 47 from the field, 45%, and 12 for 16 at the line, 75%.
Kamiah also won the JV game 29-47.

Vs. Logos
The game against Logos on Saturday was a defensive battle.
Matt Wemhoff scored 2 of his team-high 13 points on this shot against Logos.Logos scored the first 2 points of the game at the free throw line but Prairie answered with a lay-up by Wemhoff. Logos scored again for what turned out to be their final lead of the game. Prairie then closed out the first quarter with a 12-0 run. Rambo started it with a putback. Schwartz scored a lay-up. Rambo added a lay-up. Forsmann converted a 3-point play. Shears drove for a lay-up and Forsmann closed out the quarter with a free throw.
Logos went just 1 for 11 from the field in the quarter.
Shears started the second quarter with a drive for a lay-up. Logos then finally broke their scoring drought with a pair of baskets. Prairie answered with a drive for a lay-up by Wemhoff and another 3-point play by Forsmann to make it 21-8.
A Logos basket was answered with a 3-pointer and then 2 free throws by Wemhoff.to make it 26-10. Prairie led by 17 in the second quarter at Logos and saw the Knights rally back to within 7 by halftime. Logos did score the final 4 points of the half this time but still trailed 26-14 at the half.
It looked like Logos might do it again though as they started the second half with 5 straight to get within 7 at 26-19. Wemhoff broke the 0-9 run by Logos with a lay-up. Logos then scored 2 baskets to pull within 5. Rambo made 2 free throws then Logos ended the third quarter with a buzzer-beating 3.
The Knights had outscored Prairie 4-12 in the quarter.
Prairie came back in the fourth and scored the first 5 points to push the lead back to 9. Forsmann scored a lay-up then a steal by Levi Gehring led to a lay-up by Wemhoff. A steal by Forsmann led to a free throw by Rambo and a 35-26 lead.
Logos then made a 3-pointers and a lay-up to close within 4 with 3:49 to play.
Prairie responded with a lay-up each by Schwartz, Forsmann and Shears for a 41-31 lead with 2:56 to play.
Logos scored but Prairie answered with a lay-up by Gehring. Logos hit a 3 to pull within 7 with 1:12 left but that turned out to be their final points. Forsmann forced a jump ball  that gave Prairie the ball and led to a free throw by Shears. A steal by Gehring led to another free throw by Shears with 23 seconds left. Logos couldn’t hit any of their final 3-point attempts.
Wemhoff led the team in scoring with a career high 13 points. Forsmann added 11 with Shears scoring 8, Rambo 7, Schwartz 4 and Gehring 2.
Logos had a 29-31 rebounding edge. Forsmann had a double-double with 11 rebounds to lead the Pirates.
Wemhoff had 6 steals to lead the defense and Forsmann had 4 assists.
Prairie was 17 for 43 from the field, 40%, and 10 for 21 at the line, 48%. Logos was 14 for 42 from the field, 33%, and 5 for 8 at the line, 63%.
Prairie is now 9-6 on the season and 4-5 in league play.
Logos won a hard fought JV game 38-40 on a basket with 35 seconds to play.
Prairie started well as they scored the first 6 points and took a 9-2 lead. Ben Secrest opened the game with a lay-up and Chase VonBargen added a free throw. A 3 by Max Rehder made it 6-0. After a Logos basket, Secrest hit a 3 to make it 9-2.
Logos then outscored Prairie 1-9 to take their first lead at 10-11. VonBargen had the free throw for Prairie’s only point. Prairie broke the drought with a midrange shot on an inbounds play by Phineas Fitch. Kade Quintal then closed out the quarter with a buzzer-beating 3 for a 15-11 lead.
Prairie then went ice-cold in the second quarter as they were outscored 2-10. Prairie’s only points came on a putback by Quintal with 12 seconds left in the half. Logos then hit their own buzzer-beating 3 to take a 17-21 halftime lead.
Rehder hit a 3 to open the third quarter then Logos scored 8 straight points before Fitch scored to make it 22-29. After a Logos basket, Rehder hit another of his high-arching 3’s to close the third quarter with Prairie down 25-31.
Rehder scored on an inbounds play to open the fourth quarter and Quintal made a free throw to cut the deficit to 3 at 28-31.
Logos then outscore Prairie 2-7 to push their lead to 30-38 with 3:37 left. Rehder scored a putback for Prairie’s 2 points in that run.
Rehder hit back to back 3’s to cut the deficit to 36-38 with 2:20 to play. Fitch then tied it with 1:33 left. Neither team was able to score until Logos bade a basket with 35 seconds left. Prairie had a couple of chances in the final seconds but were unable to convert as Logos held on for the win.
Rehder led the Pirates with 19 points which included five 3-pointers. Quintal and Fitch scored 6 each with Secrest scoring 5 and VonBargen 2.
Logos had a 40-43 rebounding edge. Jackson Enneking led the Pirates with 9 rebound while Rehder had 7.
Quintal had 2 steals and 9 assists.
Prairie was 14 for 49 from the field, 29%, and 3 for 8 at the free throw line, 38%. Logos was 17 for 63 from the field, 27%, and 2 for 7 at the line, 29%.
