To the Library and Beyond The Board of Directors of Prairie Community Library, Inc. invites you to join us for our annual meeting on Thursday 20 February at 10:30 AM in the Library. Come in and visit with Joan and Frances on Saturdays from 10 AM till 3 PM. Joan reviewed the 1967 book, Rocky Mountain Mining Camps by Duane A. Smith, an enlightening account of the formation of permanent towns and cities in the Rocky Mountains area. Mr. Smith portrayed four decades of mining camps in ten Rocky Mountain territories and/or states that became western towns. He discussed the founders of those mining camps, especially their reasons for starting them. He illustrated how the camps grew, with types of businesses and people, the organization of city governments, fire-fighting and law enforcement systems, and schools, as well as theaters and other types of available recreation. February is Black History Month, the annual observance of the many achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their important contributions to U.S. history. The week of February 9 – 15 is Freelance Writers Appreciation Week. Friday 14 is Valentine’s Day, Library Lovers Day, and International Book Giving Day. In 2022 Prairie Community Library loaned 2,073 items, and during January - September of 2023 we loaned 1,484 children’s items. Reading can help you “[develop a strong and happy family life].” Join us for our annual meeting to see the continual internal conversation among staff and volunteers about the organization’s direction and priorities. To celebrate Valentine’s Day we want to thank you for your many thoughtful donations. We assure you that your donations are greatly appreciated as they provide for daily operations and support an endowment fund for a brighter future. Send your volunteer message to cottonwoodlib@gmail.com. Reading can help you “[improve your income and health].” Please recommend improvements to the Library’s direction, priorities and customer service. Thank you all! | COTTONWOOD
