To the Library and Beyond
We’ve had another busy week at Prairie Community Library!  Our busiest day is usually on Tuesday, since we have the children’s story hour from 10-11 am each Tuesday. However, Thursdays and Saturdays are great days to patronize the library as well. Library hours are 10-5:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 10-3:00 on Saturdays.
On Tuesday February 17 during the Children’s story hour, author Laura Beth Shurtliff will read her children’s book “The Little Hummingbird” to the story hour attendees. This is a beautiful book with many color illustrations of ruby-throated hummingbirds. These birds are native to Idaho, so it’s an appropriate story for this area.
Joan’s book review this week is a biography of renowned singer and actor Glen Campbell. Mr. Campbell passed away in 2017, but this biography, titled “The Glen Campbell Story”, was published in 1970. Glen was born to a poor farming family in Arkansas in 1936. He learned to play the guitar at an early age, as his was a musical family.  They had no radio or television, so they played instrumental music.  Glen left home at age 14 to make his fortune, and went to Albuquerque, New Mexico. There he played and sang in his uncle’s band for four years.  After marrying there, he and his wife moved to Hollywood in 1960.  He began making demo records in a recording studio there and also played in backup bands for famous singers.  He had his first solo song hit in 1967, and this was followed by several more within the next few years.  He appeared as a guest on the Smothers’ Brothers TV show, and then he began his own national TV show, “The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour” in January 1969.  He also starred in the movie “True Grit” and another titled “Norwood.”  This is a very interesting biography of a great singer who was popular around the world for many years, well into the 21st century.
Here’s a note about how our library is organized.  We have a total of approximately 18,000 books!  The different book sections include adult fiction, adult nonfiction, preschool children’s fiction, early/easy readers’ fiction and nonfiction, juvenile/young adult nonfiction and fiction, and also books about several holidays.  We also have a Large Print section, as well as Classic Fiction and new arrivals, both fiction and nonfiction.  Finally, there is an extensive Idaho/Pacific Northwest section, including fiction and nonfiction books. So, there’s a lot of great choices for reading and checking out our library books.
