Lady Pirates win first two at District The Prairie Lady Pirates advanced to the District Championship game for the 13th straight year after winning their first two tournament games. On Wednesday, Feb. 4, they defeated Clearwater Valley 63-26 at Cottonwood. On Saturday, Feb. 7, they beat Kamiah 50-27 at Lewiston High School. Vs. C.V. In the game against C.V.
the Pirates scored the first 24 points of the game. Hailey Hanson got
things started with a 3-pointer. Sydney Shears followed with a lay-up.
Kylie Schumacher scored
a free throw. Sage Elven scored 2 baskets. Kylie scored a putback and a
free throw. Shears scored a lay-up after a steal. Kylie hit a midrange
shot. Hanson scored after a steal and then closed out the first quarter
with another 3 for a 22-0 lead.Lillian Rehder scored to open the second quarter and make it 24-0. C.V. then finally got on the board with a free throw at the 6:47 mark. Prairie then scored the next 7 straight points for a 31-1 lead. Kylie Schumacher scored a free throw. Rehder scored a basket. Elven then made 4 straight free throws. lead of the game. Prairie then scored the next 15 straight points on a
run that carried into the second quarter.Kylie Schumacher tied it and Sage Elven gave Prairie the lead for good on an inbounds play. Elven added 2 more baskets and a 3-point play to make it 11-2 at the end of the first quarter. Beka Schumacher opened the second quarter with a putback and Kylie Schumacher added 2 free throws for a 15-2 lead. Kamiah then scored their first basket of the game. Elven answered when she rebounded and put back a missed free throw. Kamiah scored a free throw and Kylie Schumacher answered with a putback. Kamiah’s leading scorer for the season, Emma Krogh, hit a 3 for her only points of the first half. Elven followed with a lay-up. Shears scored after a steal. Elven scored again and Hanson closed out the half with a 3 to make it 30-8 at the break. Kamiah scored a free throw to open the second half then Elven and Kylie Schumacher each scored a basket to make it 34-9. After a 3 by Kamiah, Kylie Schumacher added another lay-up. 2 Kamiah free throws were answered by 2 baskets by Kylie. The Kubs then added a basket to end the third quarter with Prairie holding a 40-16 lead. Kamiah was able to outscored Prairie 10-11 in the fourth quarter. Much of the scoring on each side came from the free throw line as half of Prairie’s points and 7 of Kamiah’s 11 came from the line. Hanson opened the fourth quarter scoring with 2 free throws. Krogh then hit 3 of 4 for Kamiah. Rowland scored a lay-up and Shears made a 3 to make it 47-19. Krogh made 2 more free throws and Brannan answered with 2 at the line. Krogh converted a 3 point play and then added another free throw. Kamiah added a lay-up on an inbounds play before Rehder scored the game’s final point at the line. Elven led all scorers with 17 points and eclipsed the 1000 point mark for her career during the game. Kylie Schumacher had another double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Shears and Hanson scored 5 each. Brannan, Beka Schumacher and Rowland each scored 2 and Rehder scored 1. Prairie had a 41-30 advantage on the boards.
