Patriots upset Timberline The St. John Bosco
Patriots traveled to Weippe Thursday, Feb. 5 and gave league-leading
Timberline their first league loss of the season by a score of 53-49.Timberline jumped out to the early lead at 2-10 and 4-12 with Nathan Wassmuth scoring Bosco’s first 4 points. After a free throw by Pierce Frei, Timberline scored to take their biggest lead of the game at 5-14. Bosco then scored 6 straight to end the first quarter and get back into the game. Cody Weckman scored a basket. Tommy Rose made 2 free throws and Henry Baldwin scored a putback to make it 11-14 at the end of the quarter. Ignatius Parmantier scored a free throw and Connor Nuxoll added a lay-up to tie the game at 14 early in the second quarter. The two teams traded scores until Wassmuth made to free throws to tie it at 20 and Parmantier drove for a lay-up to give Bosco their first lead at the 3:30 mark of the quarter. Timberline took back the lead but Parmantier made a 3 and Weckman scored after a steal for a 27-22 lead. Timberline scored then Bosco closed out the half with a pair of baskets by Wassmuth which included a putback at the buzzer. Bosco led 31-24 at the half. Bosco made it a 10-point lead early in the third quarter as lay-ups by Baldwin and Weckman bracketed a Timberline free throw for a 35-25 lead. Timberline then put together a rally as they out scored Bosco 1-9 to cut the lead to 2 at 36-34. Baldwin’s free throw was Bosco’s only point in that run. Bosco then responded with an 8-0 run as Nuxoll and Weckman scored 2 baskets each as Bosco took a 44-34 lead. After a Timberline basket, Weckman shot scored from 16 feet out for a 46-36 lead after 3 quarters. Timberline amped up the defense in the fourth quarter as they scored 10 straight to tie the game at 46 with 3:48 to play. Baldwin finally broke the run with a putback that put Bosco back on top. Wassmuth followed with a basket to make it 50-46 with 1:55 left. Timberline scored with 30 seconds left to get within 2. Nuxoll was fouled on an offensive rebound and made the first of 2 free throws with 24 seconds left. Timberline made the second of 2 free throws with 12.2 seconds left. They then fouled Parmantier before Bosco could even inbound the ball. Parmantier made both free throws to put the Patriots up by 4 at 53-49. That wound up being the final score. Weckman and Wassmuth each scored 12 points to lead the Patriots. Baldwin and Nuxoll each scored 9 while Parmantier scored 8, Rose 2 and Frei 1. Timberline had a 25-30 edge on the boards. Wassmuth led the Patriots with 9 while Nuxoll added 7. Weckman had 8 steals and Parmantier had 3 assists. The Patriots were 21 for 43 from the field, 49%, and 10 for 19 at the line, 53%. Timberline was 20 for 46 from the field, 43%, and 8 for 14 at the line, 57%. The win closed out the Patriots league season. They are 7-6 overall and 6-4 in league. They finished tied for second with Nezperce. row the St. John Bosco Lady Patriots had their season ended by Highland
in a District opening loser out contest. The Patriots lost to the
Huskies 24-51 at Craigmont Saturday, Feb. 7.Highland scored first and Savannah Perrin answered with a lay-up. After another Highland basket, Perrin again answered to make it 4-4. Highland then scored 12 straight points to take the lead for good. The Huskies closed the first quarter with 9 straight to make it 4-13 at the end of the first period and then hit a 3 to open the second. Madeline Wassmuth broke the drought with a free throw then Highland scored another 6 straight for a 5-22 lead. Miah Mager made a free throw then Highland scored again to make it 6-24. Bosco closed out the half with a 3-point play by Wassmuth and 2 free throws by Teagan Dieseldorff that made it 11-24 at the break. Mager made a basket and a free throw to open the second half and cut the deficit to 10. Highland then outscored the Patriots 1-11 the rest of the third quarter. A free throw by Perrin was the only Patriot point as Highland took a 15-35 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter Highland scored a pair of free throws and Mager answered with a basket. Highland then scored 8 straight to take a 17-45 lead. Catherine Seubert made a free throw then Highland scored 2 baskets for an 18-49 lead that invoked the running clock mercy rule for the final 2:08 of play. Mager sank a 3 and after a Highland basket, she hit another 3 for the 24-51 final score. Mager wound up with 12 points to lead the Patriots in scoring. Perrin scored 5 in her final game as a Patriot. Wassmuth scored 4, Dieseldorff 2 and Seubert 1. Highland had the rebounding advantage 29-44. Wassmuth and Seubert each had 6 rebounds to lead the Patriots while Cece Remacle added 5. Wassmuth had 3 steals and Seubert had 2 assists. The Patriots were 7 for 34 from the field, 21%, and 8 for 17 at the line, 47%. Highland was 22 for 59 from the field, 37%, and 4 for 8 at the line, 50%. The Lady Patriots end their season with a record of 6-9.
