To the Library and Beyond Many thanks to the generous friends who donated several magazines and many children’s DVDs on 21 January. Please join us for the annual meeting of the Board of Directors of Prairie Community Library, Inc. at the Library at 10:30 AM on Thursday 20 February. Come in and visit with Frances and Joan on Saturdays between 10 AM and 3 PM. Joan has reviewed the 1985 book, Smokechaser, by interesting Idaho native, Carl A. Weholt [1900-1999]. Young Mr. Weholt spent four summers in the backwoods of what was then Selway National Forest (currently the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness). Working as a firefighter and a lookout during the summers of 1919 – 1922, his lookout job required climbing 80 feet up a fire look-out tree. The author recalls the many miles of the area through which he hiked, as well as his efforts fighting several fires. The book includes some exceptional photos of firefighters and the woods during that era. February is Low Vision Awareness Month reminding us of the challenges faced by those whose impaired vision cannot be remedied by standard appliances, treatments, or surgeries. Monday 17 is Presidents Day. In 2021 Prairie Community Library loaned 2,479 items; in 2020 we added 518 items to the Library collection.
