Patriots win season finale
The St. John Bosco Patriots ended their regular season with a 68-15 win over the Grangeville JV Tuesday, Feb. 10 at Cottonwood.
The game had originally been scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12 but was moved to Tuesday due to Prairie’s game against Grangeville being changed to accommodate for the Prairie girls playing for the District championship.
Grangeville scored first in the game but Henry Baldwin scored a putback for a 2-1 lead. After a Grangeville basket  put them back on top at 2-3, the Patriots scored the next 10 straight points. Nathan Wassmuth started the run with a pair of putbacks. Connor Nuxoll and Wassmuth each scored a basket and Cody Weckman stole the ball and drove for a lay-up. Grangeville broke the run with a basket but Weckman ended the first quarter with a 3 for a 15-5 lead.
The Patriots then scored the first 9 points of the second quarter and outscored Grangeville 21-4 in the period for a 36-9 halftime lead. Ignatius Parmantier start the quarter with a basket. Tommy Rose followed with 2 free throw and then a 3-point play. Baldwin scored to make it 24-5. After a Grangeville baskets, the Patriots scored 10 in a row. Weckman had two 3’s in that run while Baldwin, Pierce Frei and Wassmuth each had a basket. Grangeville then scored to close out the half.
Bosco scored the first 11 points of the third quarter. Weckman scored a basket. Rose made a free throw then Wassmuth made a basket. Baldwin scored twice and Parmantier closed out the run. Grangeville finally scored at the 1:31 mark of the quarter and Frei answered quickly at the other end. After a Grangeville basket, Parmantier closed out the third quarter with a basket for a 51-13 lead.
The fourth quarter was played with a running clock  and Bosco still managed to outscore Grangeville 17-2. Joseph Waters came off the bench to score 3 baskets and 2 free throws. Will Sonnen scored a pair of baskets. John Seubert had a 3 and Parmantier scored a basket.
Weckman led the scoring with 13 points. Baldwin and Wassmuth were each in double figures with 10 points each. Parmantier and Waters scored 8 each while Rose scored 6. Frei and Sonnen scored 4 each with Seubert scoring 3 and Nuxoll 2.
Bosco had a 37-19 rebounding advantage led by Wassmuth with 9.
Parmantier and Rose had 5 steals each while Weckman had 3 assists.
The Patriots were 29 for 59 from the field, 49%, and 6 for 15 at the line, 40%. Grangeville JV was 7 for 30 from the field, 23%, and 1 for 3 at the line, 33%.
The Patriots end their regular season with a record of 8-6 overall.
The JV team won their game against the Grangeville C by a score of 71-29.

Patriots open District play on Feb. 23
The St. John Bosco Patriots finished league play in a tie for second with Nezperce. However, they had the tiebreaker in their favor and will be the #2 seed and get a first round bye.
Their first District game will be Monday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Lapwai High School against the higher seeded team surviving the first round loser out games. That opponent is likely to be Nezperce unless they get upset by C.V. In that case they would play the Deary-Genesee winner.
Monday’s winners advance to the District Championship game on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. while the losers play at 6 p.m. that night. The championship game winner advances to state while the lose plays the survivor of the Tuesday loser out game on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. for the chance to play a state play-in game on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. MST at McCall-Donnelly High School for a berth at state against the District 3 runner-up.
The opening round loser out games on Saturday, Feb. 21 have Deary hosting Genesee and Nezperce hosting C.V. The rest of the tournament is at Lapwai High School.
#1 seed Timberline and #2 seed St. John Bosco have byes.
