Pirates win 1 of 2 The Prairie Pirates closed out their regular season by winning 1 of 2 league games. On Senior Night against Lapwai on Tuesday, Feb. 11, they lost 47-60. In their season finale at Potlatch Friday, Feb. 14, they won 62-56. Five seniors were honored on senior night. They are Matt Wemhoff, Briggs Rambo, Logan Weber, Collin Ray and Cole Duclos. Vs. Lapwai The Pirates were missing
starter Rambo due to an ankle injury suffered in the Kendrick game and
top reserve Webber who broke his leg.![]() As a senior, Rambo started along with Ray, Wemhoff and Duclos along with junior Riley Shears. Webber would have started if he wasn’t on crutches. At the first stoppage of play Levi Gehring, Phil Schwartz and Nate Forsmann were subbed in. Lapwai scored the first 4 points of the game. Prairie responded with a 3 by Levi Gehring and a lay-up after a steal by Wemhoff to take a 5-4 lead. That turned out to be their only lead as Lapwai went on a 0-13 run before Gehring scored a lay-up. Another Lapwai basket made it 7-19 at the end of the first quarter. Prairie outscored Lapwai 17-11 in the second quarter with Forsmann scoring 8 and Schwartz 5 while Shears and Chase VonBargen added 2 each. Prairie still trailed 24-30 at the half. Lapwai opened the third quarter with a basket then Prairie scored 8 straight to tie the game at 32-. Wemhoff made 2 free throws. Shears hit a 3 and then a free throw. Gehring scored on an inbounds play to tie it with 4:31 left in the quarter. Lapwai then scored 5 straight before Shears hit another 3. Shears added 2 free throws and another 3 that cut the deficit to 2 at 40-42. Lapwai scored 2 free throws to take a 40-44 lead into the fourth quarter. The Wildcats then outscored Prairie 4-15 to put the game out of reach. Shears scored 16 to lead the Pirates with Forsmann having a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Gehring scored 7, Schwartz 5, Wemhoff 4 and VonBargen 2. Rebounding was even at 39 each although Lapwai had a 9-15 edge in the decisive fourth quarter. Wemhoff had 2 steals and Schwartz and Forsmann each had 3 assists. Prairie was 14 for 44 from the field, 32%, and 14 for 19 at the line, 74%. Lapwai was 22 for 60 from the field, 37%, and 11 for 21 at the line, 52%. Lapwai also won the JV game 46-49. Although it was close at the end, Prairie never lead and trailed by as many as 13. Lapwai scored first and Prairie answered with a free throw by Chase VonBargen. Lapwai then scored 6 before VonBargen scored a lay-up. Lapwai led 5-14 before Prairie rallied back within 2. Ben Secrest scored a free throw. Max Rehder hit a 3. Kade Quintal made a free throw and VonBargen scored after a steal to make it 12-14. Lapwai scored in the final seconds to take a 12-16 lead into the second quarter. Secrest scored a basket and then a free throw to open the second quarter and pull the Pirates within 1. Lapwai then scored 6 straight. A basket each by Secrest, Kento Morita and Nathan Weber against a Lapwai free throw pulled the Pirates within 2 at 21-23 with 1 minute left in the half. Lapwai then scored 6 points in the final minute to take a 21-29 halftime lead. The Wildcats outscored Prairie 2-7 to take their biggest lead of the game at 23-36. Prairie then got a lay-up by Secrest, a 3 by Rehder and a lay-up by Quintal to cut the lead to 6 at 30-36. After a Lapwai basket, Rehder and Jackson Enneking each scored a basket to cut the lead to 4 at 34-38. After 2 baskets by Lapwai, Quintal scored to make it 36-42 heading into the fourth quarter. Rehder hit back-to-back 3’s to open the fourth quarter and tie the game at 42 with 6:48 left. Lapwai scored but Caden Armbrust scored a putback to tie it again at 44 with 5:30 to play. Lapwai responded with a basket and 2 free throws to lead by 4. Enneking scored on a drive to make it 46-48 with 56 seconds left. Those were Prairie’s final points though and Lapwai added a free throw to win by 3. Rehder scored 16 with four 3-pointers to lead the Pirates. Secrest scored 8, Quintal 7, VonBargen 5, Enneking 4 and Weber, Armbrust and Morita 2 each. Lapwai had a 29-38 rebounding edge. Secrest led the Pirates with 9 boards. Quintal had 5 steals and 4 assists and Weber also had 4 assists. Prairie was 19 for 47 from the field, 40%,a nd 4 for 10 at the line, 40%. Lapwai was 19 for 51 from the field, 37%, and 9 for 18 at the line, 50%. their high school careers so far. Shears scored 25 points and Gehring

first of his five 3-pointers. Potlatch answered with a 3 but Shears
then hit another 3 and Forsmann scored inside for an 8-5 lead.After a Potlatch basket, Forsmann scored a putback to make it 10-7. Potlatch then outscored Prairie 2-6 the rest of the quarter to take a 12-13 lead. Forsmann hit another putback for Prairie’s points. Forsmann made 2 free throws to open the second quarter and Gehring followed with hit first basket of the game after making a steal. Potlatch regained the lead with a 0-5 run but Prairie tied it on 2 free throws by Gehring. A lay-up by Forsmann put Prairie back on top and Gehring made it 23-18 with a 3. Potlatch scored 2 free throws and a basket to get back within 1 but Prairie then closed out the half with a 7-0 run. Shears scored a putback and Gehring drove full-court for a lay-up. Forsmann then made it 30-22 at the half by converting a 3-point play. Potlatch open the second half scoring but Wemhoff answered with a perimeter shot. Potlatch then scored a 3 but Prairie answered with a 7-0 run for a 12 point lead. Gehring drove for a lay-up, Shears scored off a feed from Schwartz and Gehring hit a 3 to make it 39-27. Potlatch came back with 5 straight points. Shears answered with a lay-up. After another Potlatch basket, Gehring hit his third 3 of the game to make it 44-34. Potlatch answered with a buzzer-beating 3 to make it 44-37 after 3 quarters. The Loggers scored a free throw to start the fourth quarter but Shears answered with a 3 to push the lead to 9. A Potlatch basket was answered with 2 free throws by Shears. Potlatch scored a free throw with 5:05 left then Prairie went on an 8-0 run to take their biggest lead of the game. Shears scored a lay-up and then his fourth 3 of the game. Forsmann converted a 3-point play to make it 57-41 with 2:57 left. Potlatch answered with 7 straight to get back within 9 at 57-48. Shears broke the run with a basket but Potlatch scored a basket and then a free throw to get within 8 at 59-51 with 1:10 left. Shears made the second of 2 free throws for a 9 point lead but Potlatch answered with a 3 to get back within 6 with 25 seconds left. Schwartz was fouled and made 2 free throws for a 62-54 lead with 21 seconds left. Potlatch scored the game’s final points with just 2 seconds left. In addition to the big games by Shears and Gehring, Forsmann had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Wemhoff and Schwartz scored 2 each. Prairie had a 33-20 advantage on the boards. Shears had 6 steals and 4 assists. Wemhoff had 5 assists and Gehring had 4. Prairie was 21 for 38 from the field, 55%, and 10 for 13 at the line, 77%. Potlatch was 20 for 51 from the field, 39%, and 9 for 13 at the line, 69%. Prairie ends their regular season with a record of 11-8, 5-7 in league play. They wound up tied for fourth with Lapwai but Lapwai got the #4 seed due to beating Prairie twice. In the JV game Prairie built a big lead and then had to hang on for a 41-34 win. Prairie jumped out to a 6-0 lead as Quintal, VonBargen and Enneking each scored a basket. After 4 points by Potlatch, Armbrust made 2 free throws and Quintal hit a 3 as Prairie took an 11-6 lead. Potlatch made it 11-9 before VonBargen closed out the quarter with a basket to make it 13-9. Prairie dominated in the second quarter. They started it with an 11-0 run. Rehder had two 3’s and a lay-up in the run while Enneking converted a 3-point play as Prairie took a 24-9 lead. After a Potlatch basket, Quintal, Matthew Jones and Weber each scored to make it 30-11. Potlatch scored a free throw right before half to make it 30-12 at the break. Weber started the second half scoring with a free throw then Potlatch scored 5 straight. Secrest scored on a drive to the hoop but Potlatch then hit back-to-back 3’s to cut the lead to 10 at 33-23. Enneking scored a basket on an inbounds play then Potlatch closed out the third quarter with a 3 to make it 35-26. Potlatch scored the first 8 points of the fourth quarter on two 3’s and a lay-up to cut the lead to just 1 at 35-34 with 4:10 to play. Fortunately for the Pirates, the Loggers hot shooting went ice-cold after that. Enneking scored a putback to make it 37-34. Rehder scored a lay-up and then scord the final 2 points of the game at the free throw line. Rehder wound up with 12 points to lead the team. Enneking scored 9 with Quintal scoring 7, VonBargen 4, Weber 3 and Jones, Armbrust and Secrest 2 each. Prairie had a 56-48 edge on the boards led by Quintal, Rehder and Secrest with 10 each. Quintal and Armbrust had 2 steals each while Quintal led in assists with 5. Prairie was 16 for 59 from the field, 27%, and 6 for 16 at the line, 38%. Potlatch was 11 for 57 from the field, 19%, and 5 for 24 at the line, 21%.
