To the Library and Beyond Next week we’ll have the results of the annual meeting of the Board of Directors of Prairie Community Library, Inc. Be sure to stop in and visit with Joan and Frances on Saturdays from 10 AM – 3 PM. Recent additions to our New Arrival shelves include The Women by Kristin Hannah; Journal Of a Trapper: Nine Years In the Rocky Mountains by Osborne Russell; and The Annapolis Book Of Seamanship by John Rousmaniere. "When in doubt go to the library." Pat G. has become a frequent patron of the Library and she has contributed the following: Thumbs Up: Lost Under a Ladder; Bite the Biscuit, and Knock On Wood by Linda O. Johnston; YA books by Steven Bly; Jinxed by Carol Higgins Clark; Jackman’s Wolf and The Glory Trail by Ray Hogan; and Some More Horse Tradin’ by Ben K. Green. Thumbs Down: The Man Who Died Laughing and The Man Who Lived By Night by David Handler. “Books are a uniquely portable magic.” Joan has reviewed the 2017 book I’ll Push You by two friends Patrick Gray and Justin Skeesuck of southern Idaho, who, in 2014, traveled the Camino Santiago trail in the Pyrenees Mountains of northern Spain to the church of Saint James. The friends tell about Justin being confined to a wheelchair by a degenerative disease and the willingness of his best friend Patrick to push the 250-pound Justin in his wheelchair up the 500-mile-long trail. The authors tell about many fellow trail climbers they met who helped them push Justin in his wheelchair along several trail sections. Despite the difficulty of the trek, the friends found reasons to enjoy their journey. February is National Library Lovers' Month. Wednesday 26 is Tell A Fairy Tale Day. Thursday 27 is Digital Learning Day. In 2019 Prairie Community Library served 2,349 patrons. January through September of 2023, children’s Story Hour edu-tained 533 children and parents. Under responsible direction and leadership, Prairie Community Library will always strive to serve the literary needs of our surrounding communities as those needs continue to evolve. "Service is what life is all about."
