Highland ends Patriots season
The St. John Bosco Patriots finished their regular season with a 61-45 win against the Clarkston JV at Clarkston then saw their season come to an end with an opening round 28-56 loss to Highland at Craigmont.
At Clarkston JV
The Patriots jumped out to a 6-0 lead at Clarkston as Cody Weckman scored a pair of baskets and Stallone Hoene added another.
Clarkston came back with 8 straight to take their first lead. A basket by Conner Nuxoll and a free throw by Sam Weckman put Bosco back on top but a 3 by Clarkston gave them the lead. Cody Weckman tied it with 2 free throws and Sam Weckman put Bosco back on top with a free throw.
Clarkston took back the lead then Nathan Wassmuth put Bosco back on top by hitting 3 of 4 free throws. After Clarkston tied it, Levi Wassmuth scored to give Bosco a 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Levi Wassmuth scored to open the second quarter then Clarkston sank back to back 3’s to retake the lead. A basket and two free throws by Levi Wassmuth put Bosco back on top. A 3 by Clarkston was answered by a basket by Cody Weckman. A 3-point play was answered with a basket by Cody Weckman that tied it at 27.
Clarkston then scored a free throw and a basket and Sam Weckman scored to make it 29-30 at the half.
Hoene hit a turn-around jumper to open the second half but Clarkston answered. Levi Wassmuth scored to make it 33-32 then Clarkston hit a 3 for what turned out to be their final lead of the game. Levi Wassmuth scored a putback that tied it and kicked off a 9-0 Bosco scoring run. Levi added a free throw then Sam Weckman scored a lay-up. Noah Beckman scored a putback and Sam Weckman added a putback to make it 42-35 with 2:23 left in the third quarter.
Clarkston broke the run with 4 straight points but a basket by Beckman and a 3 by Sam Weckman gave Bosco a 47-39 lead after 3 quarters.
Bosco then scored the first 7 points of the fourth quarter. Sam Weckman scored a basket, Levi Wassmuth converted a 3-point play and Sam Weckman added another backet for a 54-39 lead.
Clarkston made back to back 3’s but those were their final points of the game as they made just 2 of 22 shots in the fourth quarter and went 0 for 4 at the line. Bosco scored the game’s final 7 points. Hoene scored a basket. Beckman scored a putback. Henry Baldwin scored a basket and Nuxoll finished it off with a free throw.
Levi Wassmuth led the scoring with 16 points while Sam Weckman added 15 and Cody Weckman 10. Beckman and Hoene each scored 6. Nathan Wassmuth scored 5, Nuxoll 3 and Baldwinscored 2.
Bosco had a huge 67-48 advantage on the boards. Levi Wassmuth had 22 rebounds while Nathan Wassmuth had 13 and Beckman had 12.
Levi Wassmuth had 4 steals while Tommy Rose and Cody Weckman had 3 each. Cody Weckman had 4 assists.
The Patriots were 25 for 76 from the field, 33%, and 11 for 23 at the line, 48%. Clarkston JV was 16 for 66 from the field, 24%, and 3 for 11 at the line, 27%.
The Patriots end their regular season with a 5-13 record.

District Play-in at Highland 
The Patriots never led in their District play-in game at Highland. 
The Huskies scored the first 4 points. Bosco was able to answer with a pair of baskets by Levi Wassmuth to tie it but Highland then outscored them 0-8 the rest of the first quarter for a 4-12 lead.
Highland opened the second quarter with a basket then the Patriots got a basket each from Tommy Rose and Cody Weckman to pull within 6 at 8-14.
After 2 more Highland baskets, Cody Weckman made a free throw. Highland answered with a 3-point play. Levi Wassmuth scored on a full court dash for a lay-up to make it 11-21. Highland then scored the final 4 points of the half for an 11-25 lead.
Highland outscored the Patriots 2-10 to open the third quarter and take a 13-35 lead. Cody Weckman had Bosco’s lone points in that run.
Bosco then went to full-court pressure and were able to out score Highland 8-3 over the next 4 minutes. Levi Wassmuth banked in a free throw. Sam Weckman and Cody Weckman each scored. Highland then got a banked in 3 before Cody Weckman scored a basket and then a free throw to make it 21-38.
Highland added 4 free throws and Nuxoll scored a basket as Highland took a 23-42 lead into the fourth quarter.
Bosco mustered just 5 points in the final period of their season as Hoene sank a 3-pointer in the midst of a 3-14 Highland scoring run and Rose sank 2 free throws for the final points of the game.
Cody Weckman led the Patriots with 10 points while Levi Wassmuth scored 7. Rose scored 4, Hoene 3 and Nuxoll and Sam Weckman 2 each.
Highland had a 44-52 advantage on the boards. Levi Wassmuth had 11 to lead the Patriots while Nathan Wassmuth added 8.
Cody Weckman had a pair of steals and Hoene had 2 assists.
The Patriots were 11 for 56 from the field, 20%, and 5 for 18 at the line, 28%. Highland was 21 for 61 from the field, 34%, and 11 for 23 at the line, 48%.
St. John Bosco ends their season with a record of 5-14.
