To the Library and Beyond
Last month, February 2025, Prairie Community Library was open 80 hours; we served 191 patrons and loaned 289 items, 196 of which were children’s items.  Librarians added 60 items to the Library collection and Story Hour hosted 46 children and 16 adults.  Remember to stop by the Library on Saturday between 10 AM and 3 PM to chat.  Bring your ideas for celebrating the Library’s 40th anniversary.
Frances has reviewed the 2012 book, Roots In the Prairie Dust: The Happy Years 1931 – 1937 by Maxine W. Melton.  Ms. Melton grew up during the Great Depression on a farm in eastern Montana, and this book contains a collection of her memories of those years.  The author wrote essays about the summers when her family worked in their wheat fields and garden; and she was in charge, from age 5, of taking care of her two younger sisters.  She also portrayed the very cold winters and blizzards, and trips into town, accidents, and other occurrences.  The book is a good read and provides interesting info about the hard times in the 1930s.”
In the month of March we remember to support Music In Our Schools and National Nutrition.
Sunday 9 we return to Daylight Savings Time; Friday 14 is Full Moon.  In 2018 Prairie Community Library loaned 2,198 items; in 2021, there were 719 children and adults who attended Story Hour.  “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful and committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”  The volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community Library aspire to continuing always our mission of serving the residents of our communities and your changing needs.
Send your volunteer message to cottonwoodlib@gmail.com.  “Volunteering brings fun into our lives and helps us learn new things.”  Please recommend improvements to the Library’s direction, priorities and customer service.  Thank you all!
