To the Library and Beyond
As this column is being written two inches of rain have fallen in the last two days yielding sodden views and requiring unclogging of drainage channels. Who knows what the weather will be in a few days!  No matter, your library will be open for your visit on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays. Come spend a few moments exploring around our shelves for something interesting to read, listen to, or watch.
New on our shelves is from our Youth shelves, the chapter book, Ella Enchanted. It is somewhat a retelling of the Cinderella story with humorous twists and a smart spunky female main character. This book is geared for readers about age eight and older.
For adult fiction readers this week’s review is a newly acquired book by prize winning author Elizabeth Strout, The Burgess Boys. The author skillfully blends the feelings of the characters with the flow of their lives taking place in Maine and New York City. Two brothers, successful and not so successful attorneys, and their sister, who never moved away from their home state of Maine, are brought together in the middle years of their lives through a family tragedy forcing them to confront truths and lies of their growing up years. The book also sensitively explores the impact of Somali immigrants living in Maine with ensuing cultural conflicts. This is a story that is thoroughly engaging and thought provoking.
In other bookish news: For those who have never read the adventure epic The Count of Monte Cristo written by Alexandre Dumas in 1846, your family might enjoy watching an eight-part PBS series that begins on Idaho Public TV on Sunday March 22nd. As I’ve never read the book I’ll be watching. Currently the library’s copy is on loan but it will be back next month. Let us know if you’d like to reserve it.
Last week’s column mistakenly misspelled our newest volunteer’s name. It is Kristina, not Katrina. My apologies Kristina and thank you for your valued assistance.
