To the Library and Beyond
Carissa and Frances are busy developing plans for multiple events to celebrate the 40th year of Library operation.  Come in on Saturdays from 10 AM till 3 PM to chat with Joan and Frances.  Pat G. has added a few more book critiques:  Thumbs-up for young-adult book, A Dog Called Kitty by Bill Wallace and all mystery novels by Mary Higgins Clark; thumbs-down for no plot in Fencing the Sky by James Galvin.
Joan has reviewed the 1997 book Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer, about several mountain climbers who lost their lives.  Mr. Krakauer joined a mountain climbing expedition to the summit of Mount Everest in the spring of 1996.  In the book the author describes the ascent to the world’s highest peak, as well as the route his expedition took.  As his group was descending from the summit, a severe spring storm struck and several climbers lost their lives due to the extreme cold, wind, high altitude, and lack of oxygen.  This book describes their tragic deaths and the efforts to find and rescue them before they lost their lives.  The author relates the tragic story with much detail and clearly portrays the very dangerous conditions on the mountain.”
March is Youth Arts Month.  “Volunteering expands our resumes and improves our confidence.”  In 2023 (January – September) Prairie Community Library loaned 2,171 items; in 2024 (July – December) we served 1,375 patrons.  The volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community Library aspire to a continuing internal conversation about the organization’s direction and priorities.
Send your volunteer message to cottonwoodlib@gmail.com.  “Volunteerism is the voice of the people put into action.”  Please recommend improvements to the Library’s direction, priorities and customer service.  Thank you all!
