Lady Pirates split two league games
The Prairie Lady Pirates split a pair of league games to start their season. On Tuesday, March 18, they won 31-11 at Lapwai. Then on Thursday, March 20, the lost 2-9 to Clearwater Valley at Kooskia.
At Lapwai
In the game at Lapwai, Prairie got off to a great start as they scored 16 runs in the top of the first inning. They scored those runs on just 4 hits as they received 12 walks and there were 5 hit batters. Zoey Behler pulls into third against Lapwai. The freshman had 3 singles and a double in the game.
Erica Schlader and Kaylie Lockett both walked to start the game. Kenly Forsmann was hit with a pitch to load the bases. Avery Schacher was hit by a pitch to force home the first run of the game. Zoey Behler then singled to left to score both Lockett and Forsmann. An error allowed a third run to score as Behler moved on to second. Maggie Nuxoll, Bailey Key, Halle Rowland, Kenna Granger and Schlader were all walked. None of them picked up an RBI as several runs were scored on passed balls. Lockett was hit by a pitch and Forsmann was walked. Schacher and Behler were both hit by pitches. The first out came on the base paths when Forsmann was called out for leaving second base before the pitch. Nuxoll and Key were both walked. Rowland hit a single to right center to score 2 runs with a second out recorded at third base as Key tried to go from first to third on the hit. Granger walked then Schlader picked up a single on a fly ball that parachuted down behind second base. Lockett walked and Forsmann picked up the fourth hit of the inning, scoring Granger with the 16th run before the final out was recorded.
In the bottom of the first Lapwai scored 3 runs as Lockett gave up 2 hits, walked 1 and hit one. Another runner reached base on a passed ball on strike 3. Prairie limited the damage with an inning ending double play. Schlader caught a short fly at first and doubled off the runner at second.
Prairie added 4 more runs in the second inning. Nuxoll walked with 1 out and stole second. After a ground out move Nuxoll to third, Rowland walked. A double steal scored Nuxoll with Rowland moving to second. Lapwai then threw the ball away a couple times allowing Rowland to score. Granger walked then Schlader reached on an error. Lockett then double to the wall in center to score both Granger and Schlader for a 20-3 lead.
Lapwai answered with 5 in the bottom of the second on 4 walks and 2 hits. Lockett walked the leadoff hit then got a pair of outs. 5 straight baserunners reached before she was able to get the third out on a comebacker.
Prairie added 2 runs in the third inning. Behler led off with a single up the middle and stole second. Nuxoll and Key both walked to load the bases. Rowland walked to score Behler. After a short fly ball out, Schlader was hit by a pitch to score Nuxoll.
Lapwai scored 3 in the bottom o the third. Lockett got an out then walked two hitters. After a strikeout, Lapwai got a 2 run single and 3 straight walks to score their runs before Prairie got out of the inning with a groundout.
Prairie added 7 runs in the top of the fourth, all after the first two hitters were put out. Behler started the rally with a single to left. Nuxoll, Key and Rowland were each walked with Behler scoring. A wild pitch scored Nuxoll. Granger was then hit by a pitch to reload the bases. Schlader was walked to score Key. Rowland scored on a wild pitch then Lockett tripled to the fence in right center to score both Granger and Schlader. Forsmann hit fly ball to left that was dropped allowing Lockett to score. The inning then ended when Forsmann was thrown out trying to advance to second.
Rowland went in to pitch in the bottom of the fourth. She walked 2 but stranded both runners as she got out of the inning with no runs scored.
Prairie added 2 more runs in the top of the fifth. Schacher was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Behler then double to right center with Schacher advancing to third. Schacher tried to score on a passed ball but was put out at the plate. Nuxoll and Key both walked. Behler scored on a wild pitch with Nuxoll moving to third. Nuxoll scored on another wild pitch to make it 31-11.
In the bottom of the fifth Rowland got an out on a popup to first then gave up a hit on a looper to right. She then gave up a walk but then got the final 2 outs, ending the game with a strikeout.
Prairie had 9 hits led by Behler who had 3 singles and a double and an RBI. Lockett had a double and a triple and 4 RBI. Schlader had a single and 3 RBI. Forsmann had a single and an RBI. Rowland had a single and 2 RBI. Schlader, Nuxoll and Rowland each reached base all 6 times they came to the plate. Nuxoll on 6 walks as she wound up 0 for 0 in the game but scored 6 runs.
Lockett gave up 11 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts, 10 walks and 1 hit batter in 3 innings. Rowland gave up 0 runs on 1 hit with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts in 2 innings.

In the game at Kooskia, the Lady Pirates took the lead with a run in the top of the first inning.
Neither team scored in the second and Prairie added a run in the third to make it 2-0. C.V. scored in the bottom of the third and then tied it at 2-2 with a run in the bottom of the fourth.
In the fifth C.V. scored 7 runs in the bottom of the inning and the game was then called due to darkness.
Prairie had 3 hits in the game with Forsmann, Behler and Nuxoll each collecting a single.
Lockett pitched into the fifth inning and Rowland went in to try and stem the tide of C.V. runs that scored.
Prairie is now 1-1 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
Their next game is Tuesday, April 1 at Kendrick.
