Vs. Lapwai
In the game against Lapwai at Lewiston’s Clearwater Field, Prairie got off to a good start with a 6-run first inning. Cody Kaschmitter hit a 1-out double to left. Cody Kaschmitter pitched nearly 4 innings of no-hit ball against Lapwai before reaching the pitch limit.Noah Behler was then hit by the next pitch. A wild pitch moved the runners up and another wild pitch scored Kaschmitter and sent Behler to third. Jake Quintal reached on an error with Behler scoring. Quintal then stole second. Levi McElroy lofted a fly ball behind second and wound up with a double. Quintal had to stop at third as he had to make sure the ball wasn’t caught. After a second out, Chris Schumacher doubled down the left field line, scoring both runners. Devon Poxleitner reached on an error with Schumacher moving to third. A pass ball scored Schumacher and then another scored Poxleitner to make it 6-0.
Kaschmitter started on the mound for the Pirates and walked Lapwai’s leadoff batter. The next batter reached on an error. Stolen bases and wild pitches led to both runners scoring. During that process Kaschmitter struck out the next 3 batters to leave Prairie with a 6-2 lead after 1 inning.
Prairie added 3 more in the second inning. Kaschmitter beat out an infield hit and stole second. A wild pitch sent him to third. Behler drew a walk and stole second with Kaschmitter scoring as the throw went to second base. After a second out, McElroy walked and stole second. Behler scored on an error. McElroy scored when Collin Ray singled to right. That made it 9-2 in Prairie’s favor.
In the bottom of the second Lapwai’s first two batters reached on a hit by pitch and an error. Kaschmitter then struck out the next 3 batters to leave the first two stranded.
The Pirates added 5 more runs in the third. Kade Quintal led off with a single to right. After an out, Kaschmitter reached on an error with Quintal scoring. Behler was hit by a pitch and Jake Quintal then singled to score Kaschmitter. Jake Quintal stole second and then McElroy singled to right to score both runners. Lapwai then changed pitchers and got an out. Schumacher then singled up the middle to score McElroy and make it 14-2.
Lapwai got a run in the bottom of the inning as the first 3 hitters reached on 2 walks and a hit batsman. The first batter scored on a wild pitch. Prairie got the first our of the inning as the second runner tried to go to third on the play.
Prairie added 1 run in the fourth. Kaschmitter hit a 1-out double to right center and scored on Behler’s single to left.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kaschmitter got an out, gave up a walk, got another out, then gave up 2 walks to load the bases. After the third walk of the inning he had reached the pitch limit and Behler went to the mound. Behler got a strikeout to end the inning.
In the top of the fifth Priarie added 3 more runs. Schumacher walked to lead off the inning. Carter Shears pinch-hit and was walked. Poxleitner re-entered to run for Shears. After a pair of outs, Kaschmitter singled to right to score Schumacher. Behler then singled to left to score both Poxleitner and Kaschmitter. That gave Prairie an 18-3 lead going into the bottom of the fifth.
Lapwai tried to rally as a dropped pop-up put the first hitter on. After a stolen base and infield hit followed. A double steal scored the first runner. After an out, Lapwai got an RBI single to right. 2 stolen bases and an error scored that runner. After a second out, Lapwai got an infield hit and a double to score another run and pull within 11 at 18-7. After a hit batsman, Prairie got the final out as Kaschmitter threw out the runner from second as he tried to steal third.
Prairie pounded out 14 hits led by Kaschmitter who had 3 doubles and a single and an RBI. Schumacher had a double and 2 singles and 3 RBI. Behler had 2 singles and 3 RBI. McElroy had a single and a double and 2 RBI. Jake Quintal had a single and 2 RBI. Ray had a single and an RBI and Kade Quintal had a single.
Kaschmitter gave up 3 runs on no hits with 9 strikeouts, 6 walks and 2 hit batsmen in 3 2/3 innings. Behler gave up 4 runs on 4 hits with 3 strikeouts and not walks in 1 1/3 innings.

At Pomeroy
The game at Pomeroy was a “Walk the Plank” wooden bat game.
Neither team scored until the third inning when Prairie scored a run. Pomeroy answered with 3 in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.
Prairie tied it with 2 runs in the fourth but Pomeroy then took the lead for good with 5 runs in the bottom of the inning.
Prairie added 2 runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-8. Pomeroy then scored 4 in the bottom of the 6th.
Prairie had 6 hits in the game. Behler had a double while Phil Schwartz, Kaschmitter, Schumacher, Poxleitner and Jake Quintal each had a single.
Poxleitner was the starting pitcher for Prairie with McElroy taking over in the 3rd inning. Schumacher took over in the fourth and Jake Quintal in the 6th. Coach David Shears was limiting the pitch counts as the Pirates had 3 more games in the next 2 days and he wanted everyone available.

Vs. Liberty Christian
In the game against Liberty Christian at Kooskia, the Pirates got off to a rough start. Schwartz started on the mound and gave up a walk to the leadoff batter. An error allowed the runner to score and the batter to reach second. Another error sent him tPhil Schwartz had a solid outing on the mound against Liberty Christian.o third and a sacrifice fly scored him. The next hitter then hit a home run over the right field fence. Schwartz then got the next two hitters out and didn’t give up another run until the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the first Schwartz beat out an infield hit to lead of the game and stole second. Kaschmitter reached on a bad hop single to first with Schwartz advancing to third. Behler scored Schwartz with a sacrifice fly to right. Jake Quintal then hit the ball hard but it was right to the shortstop who doubled off Kaschmitter for the third out.
Schwartz gave up a 2-out single in the top of the second then got out of the inning with a pop-up.
Prairie tied it in the bottom of the inning. McElroy led off with an infield hit and stole second. A passed ball on ball 4 to Schumacher allowed McElroy to advance to third. A delayed double steal scored McElroy with Schumacher safe at second. After an out, Ray reached on an error and another double steal scored Schumacher to tie game at 3-3.
Schwartz walked the leadoff hitter in the top of the third and then got the next 3 hitters out.
Prairie put 2 runners on in the bottom of the third but they were stranded. Jake Quintal singled and McElroy walked, both with 1 out. 2 strikeouts ended the inning.
In the fourth Schwartz alternated giving up a free pass and getting an out as held walked 2 batters and hit another but recorded a bases loaded strikeout to end the inning.
In the bottom of the fourth Ray singled to lead off the inning and stole second. Kade Quintal bunted for a base hit to move Ray to third and then stole second. They were stranded there after 2 strikeouts and a groundout to first.
In the fifth Schwartz got an out then gave up a double and a walk. Two errors led to the go-ahead run. Schwartz got a second out on a pop-up to second but then walk 2 more to load the bases. Schwart hit the pitch limit and Behler came in. He walked in a run before getting the final out.
Prairie was put out in order in the bottom of the fifth and the game was called due to the predetermined time limit for the tournament games.
Prairie had 6 hits in the game, all singles. Schwartz, Kaschmitter, Jake Quintal, McElroy, Ray and Kade Quintal each had a single.
Schwartz gave up 5 runs in 4 2/3 innings on 3 hits with 5 strikeouts, 7 walks and 1 hit batsman. Behler pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up 1 walk and no runs.

Vs. North Star Charter
In the game against North Star Charter, nether team scored until North Star posted 2 runs in the bottom of the third.
Prairie took the lead with 3 runs in the top of the fourth. McElroy reached on an error and stole second. Schumacher singled to left with McElroy scoring. Poxleitner then reached on an error with Schumacher scoring. Poxleitner advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch and Ray sacrifice bunted him over to third. Kade Quintal walked then Poxleitner scored on a balk to give Prairie a 3-2 lead.
That lasted until the bottom of the fifth when starting pitcher Behler ran into some trouble and gave up 3 runs before giving way to Poxleitner, who gave up 2 more runs before Prairie got out of the inning. That put North Star up 3-7.
In the top of the sixth Shears pinch hit and reached on an error with 2 outs. The next batter hit a fly ball to right and the game was called due to the time limit.
Prairie had just 1 hit in the game, an RBI single by Schumacher.
Behler pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up 5 runs on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks. Poxleitner pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits with 2 walks and a strikeout.

Vs. Bandon
The Pirates started slow against Bandon as they gave up 4 runs in the first inning and 2 more in the second to fall behind 0-6.
Things turned around in the third inning. Ray, Kade Quintal and Schwartz were each walked on 4 pitches. Kaschmitter then grounded to short, forcing Schwartz with Ray scoring and Quintal going to third. Kaschmitter stole second. Behler was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jake Quintal then reached on an infield single to score Kade Quintal. McElroy then walked to force home Kaschmitter with another run. Schumacher walked to force in Behler. Poxleitner grounded out to second with Jake Quintal scoring while McElroy and Schumacher move up a base. Ray then reached on an error as McElroy scored to tie the game at 6-6. Schumacher scored on a wild pitch to give Prairie a 7-6 lead.
Unfortunately for the Pirates, Bandon came right back with 5 runs in the bottom of the third to retake the lead at 7-11.
In the top of the fourth Schwartz was walked to lead off the inning. Kaschmitter reached on an error and wound up on second on the play as Schwartz made it to third. Behler reached on a fielder’s choice as Schwartz scored and Kaschmitter beat the throw to third. Kaschmitter then scored on a passed ball. After 2 outs were made, Schumacher reached on an error as Behler scored to cut the deficit to 10-11.
Bandon then added a run in the bottom of the fourth. The game was called at the end of the inning due to the time limit.
Prairie had just 1 hit in the game, an RBI single by Jake Quintal.
McElroy started on the mound and gave up 11 runs on 7 hits with 1 strikeout and 5 walks in 3 innings. Kade Quintal pitched the final inning and gave up 1 run on 1 hit with 1 walk.
Prairie is now 1-5 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
