To the Library and Beyond
Words convey information, thoughts, entertain, and transport to faraway places.
With that in mind here’s a few joking April Fool’s Day words.
What kind of shoes do frogs wear in spring? Open-toad!

Pat Gehring wrote some notes about a trilogy of mystery books by Philip Pullman suitable for youth and adult readers. “Sixteen-year old Sally Lockhart experiences life in Victorian London in the gritty and evil times in the city. This world can only be improved by checking for and objecting to its corruption”. We might add, doing the same anywhere throughout the world is ongoing for improvement of civilizations.
The library invites high schoolers who need ideas for their senior projects to visit with us. We have several activities that might be suitable. Here’s an example: a small moveable book display.
Stop by to discuss. We welcome anyone, high schooler or not, that might want to take on this carpentry project.

Community announcements. Don’t forget the next, and final, spring Monastery lecture on Thursday April 9 at 3 pm in the Spirit Center at the Monastery. The topic is the life and legacy of Bill Wassmuth whose work helped counter hate movements in the 1980’s and 1990’s. The executive director of the Boise based Wassmuth Center for Human Rights is the presenter.
And mark your calendars for the Idaho County Orchestra Concert for an exquisite musical treat at the Monastery chapel Sunday May 3 at 2 pm. The free concert is family friendly. Donations are welcome to support scholarships for high school seniors pursuing musical programs. Refreshment reception after the concert.
Anyone not wanting to fix lunch on Tuesdays can come to the basement of Community Hall at noon for a hot meal with the weekly senior citizens’ lunch group. It’s not necessary to be a senior citizen. Meal cost is by donation. While there, drop in
to the library right next door. We’re happy to show you around. We’re always adding new books to our shelves.

Joan will be backnext week as columnist for the rest of the month. Keep reading.
