Pirates lose 2 league games
The Prairie baseball team lost a pair of league games last week. On Tuesday, April1, they traveled to Kendrick and lost 7-9. On Friday, April 4, they traveled to Potlatch and lost 2-8.

At Kendrick
In the game at Kendrick the Pirates fell behind 0-8, rallied back within 1 at 7-8 before losing by 2. Levi McElroy hustles to first for an infield single at Kendrick.
Phil Schwartz led off the game with a walk. After two outs, Schwartz stole second and then Jake Quintal walked. Schwartz then stole third. Prairie then tried a delayed double steal but Quintal was unable to get in a rundown that would have allowed Schwartz to score from third.
Jake Quintal started on the mound for the Pirates and walked Kendrick’s leadoff hitter who then stole second. The runner advanced to third on a fly-ball out to center. A single then scored the first run of the game. Quintal then got out of the inning with lineout and then a caught stealing at third base.
Prairie went down in order in the top of the second. In the bottom of the inning a single, fly out, then 2 walks loaded the bases. After a strikeout, a wild pitch scored a run and moved up the other two runners. A walk reloaded the bases. Another wild pitch scored a run but the final out was recorded at the plate as Prairie now trailed 0-3.
Prairie again went down in order in the third inning. In the bottom of the third a walk, single and another walk loaded the bases. Levi McElroy then went in to pitch. The runner on third was caught trying to steal home but another walk quickly reloaded the bases. Another walk forced home a run to make it 0-4. McElroy then got out of the inning with a pair of strikeouts.
In the fourth, McElroy led off with a single for Prairie’s first hit of the game. After an out, Jake Quintal walked. Following a strikeout, Chris Schumacher beat out an infield single. However a groundout ended the inning. In the bottom of the fourth the leadoff hitter reached on a dropped third strike. After the runner stole second, he scored on a single to right. A bunt single put runners on first and second. After a double steal, another singled scored 2 more runs. After a groundout and a strikeout, Kendrick scored on a steal of home to make it 0-8. McElroy then got out of the inning with another strikeout.
Kendrick changed pitchers in the fifth and the Pirates had a lot more success against the new pitcher. Max Rehder was hit by a pitch leading off. Collin Ray then drew a walk. Schwartz beat out a bunt single with Rehder able to beat the throw home as Ray advanced to third. McElroy then singled to score Ray. Carter Shears walked to load the bases. After an out, Devon Poxleitner singled to score both McElroy and Schwartz. Schumacher was hit by a pitch to reload the bases. Kade Quintal then walked to score Shears. After a second out, Ray walked to score Poxleitner and make it 6-8.
In the bottom of the fifth McElroy gave up just a 2-out walk as he posted a 0 on the scoreboard.
In the sixth McElroy led off with a single then went to second on a wild pitch and to third on an error. After 2 outs, Poxleitner singled to right to score McElroy and get the Pirates within 1 at 7-8. In the bottom of the 6th McElroy gave up a walk and then got 2 outs. Kade Quintal then went in to pitch and gave up a run scoring single before getting the third out.
Prairie went down in order in the top of the seventh as Kendrick held on for the win.
The Pirates had 7 hits led by McElroy who had 3 singles and an RBI. Poxleitner had 2 singles and 3 RBI. Schwartz had a single and an RBI and Schumacher had a single. Kade Quintal and Ray each had an RBI on bases loaded walks.
Jake Quintal gave up 4 runs on 3 hits in 2 innings with 1 strikeout and 6 walks. McElroy pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed 5 runs on 3 hits with 8 strikeouts and 5 walks. Kade Quintal pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed no runs on 1 hit with 1 strikeout.

At Potlatch
In the game at Potlatch, Prairie outhit the Loggers 8-6 but couldn’t get the clutch hits to score runs.
Schwartz singled to lead off the game but was stranded at first as the next 3 batters were put out.
Kade Quintal started on the mound and started with a strikeout. He then gave up a double. A balk moved the runner to third and he scored on a groundout to give Potlatch the lead. Quintal then got out of the inning with a strikeout.
Poxleitner led off the second inning with a double to center. He then stole third. He had to hold up on a groundout  but then scored on a single by Kade Quintal. Rehder followed with a walk. Potlatch then got 2 outs to end the inning with the score tied 1-1.
In the bottom of the second the first two hitters walked. A wild pitch moved the runners. A run then scored on a groundout to give Potlatch the lead back at 1-2. The inning ended on a caught stealing and then a popout to the pitcher.
In the third McElroy, Shears and Jake Quintal each singled to load the bases. Two strikeouts and a ground out ended the inning with no runs scoring.
Potlatch added a pair of runs in the bottom of the third on a walk and 3 singles.
In the fourth Ray hit a 1-out single to right and Schwartz walked. Two strikeouts kept the Pirates from scoring. In the bottom of the fourth Kade Quintal gave up a leadoff walk then got out of the inning with 3 groundouts, two of them on sacrifice bunts.
In the fifth Poxleitner reached on an error with 1 out but was stranded at second. In the bottom of the fifth Quintal hit the leadoff batter then got 2 outs before catching the runner trying to steal third to end the inning.
The Pirates went down in order in the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth Quintal got a strikeout then was hurt by consecutive errors. A single then scored a run. Schwartz was called on to pitch and walked his first batter to load the bases. A hit batsman scored another run. A double scored 2 more runs to make it 1-8 before Schwartz got out of the inning with a strikeout.
McElroy led off the seventh with a double to center. After an out, Jake Quintal reached on an error with McElroy advancing to third. After a second out, Prairie executed a delayed double steal with Quintal stealing second and McElroy stealing home as the throw went to second. A strikeout then ended the game.
Prairie had 8 hits led by McElroy who had a single and a double. Poxleitner had a double. Kade Quintal had a single and an RBI. Schwartz, Shears, Jake Quintal and Ray each had a single.
Kade Quintal pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed 7 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts, 1 hit batsman and 5 walks. Only 4 of the runs were earned. Schwartz pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed 1 run on 1 hit with 1 strikeout, 1 walk and 1 hit batsman.
Prairie is now 1-3 on the season and 0-3 in league play.
