They were to play at Potlatch on Thursday, April 16 but that game was postponed due to field conditions and will be made up this Saturday, April 25 at Cottonwood as part of a doubleheader. Vs. Lewis County at Lewiston Three pitchers combined to
pitch a no-hitter against Lewis County. Kade Quintal pitched the first
inning and allowed a leadoff walk and then got the next 3 hitters out. Chris Schumacher pitched
the second inning. He got 2 quick outs and then gave up a walk before
inducing an inning-ending groundout. Isaiah Warren pitched the final 3
innings. He recorded 6 straight outs before an error allowed a
baserunner. He got the next 3 hitters out to end the game.The Pirates meanwhile batted around in the bottom of the first inning. Quintal was hit by a pitch leading off. Levi McElroy followed with an infield single. The two runners pulled off a double steal. Schumacher followed with an infield single that scored Quintal. Devon Poxleitner then reached on an error by the shortstop with both McElroy and Schumacher scoring. Poxleitner reached second on the play. Phil Schwartz then made his season debut as a courtesy runner for Poxleitner. Schwartz had missed the early part of the season due to a hand injury and was cleared to participate as a baserunner. After a pair of outs, Levi Gehring singled to right to score Schwartz. Gehring stole second, went to third on a throwing error by the catcher and then scored on an errant pickoff attempt to make it 5-0. In the second inning Quintal walked to lead off the inning and stole second. McElroy walked and both runners stole to move to second and third. Quintal scored on a passed ball to make it 6-0. In the third inning Gehring walked to lead off the inning but was forced at second by John Seubert. Max Rehder singled to right but was forced at second by Quintal with Seubert moving to third. Quintal stole second. Seubert scored on a passed ball. Warren was inserted for McElroy when he went in to pitch and drew a walk. Warren broke for second and when the throw went to second, Quintal scored from third on a delayed double steal. Schumacher reached on an error with Warren moving to third. Another delayed double steal scored Warren. Poxleitner drew a walk. Cooper Riener followed with a single to score Schumacher and make it 10-0. Prairie added another run in the fourth. Patrick Schlader pinch-hit for Gehring and reached on an error. He stole second. Seubert drew a walk. Chase VonBargen pinch-hit for Rehder and hit into a force-out. Seubert was called for offensive interference on the play leading to VonBargen being called out at first. Schlader then scored on a passed ball to make it 11-0. The game was called after 5 innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. Prairie scored 11 runs despite just 5 hits. Schumacher, Riener and Gehring each had a single and an RBI. McElroy and Rehder each had a single. Quintal gave up no runs and no hits with 1 walk in 1 inning. Schumacher gave up no runs and no hits with 1 walk and 1 strikeout in 1 inning. Warren gave up no runs and no hits with 4 strikeouts in 3 innings. The game with Lewis County had originally been scheduled for Monday, April 13 at Cottonwood. It was rescheduled to Friday at Cottonwood and then moved to Lewiston due to weather and field conditions. starting pitcher Payton Christensen mowed through the Prairie lineup in
their first run through the batting order. He struck out 6 of the first
9 hitters with the only baserunner being Riener, who had a 1-out single
in the second inning.Meanwhile Troy got on the board in the first inning. A leadoff walk was forced out at second. After a stole base, the next hitter hit a dribbler along the third base line. Pitcher Austin Labrum fielded the ball and threw wide of first allowing the runner to score from second. That would be the only run Labrum would give up. Labrum then got 5 straight outs before giving up a leadoff single in the third inning. He then got the next 3 runners out. Prairie finally got to Christensen in the fourth inning. Schumacher led off with a walk and stole second. Poxleitner followed with a single to right with Schumacher advancing to third. A delayed double steal tied the score as Schumacher stole home as Poxleitner stole second. Riener walked then a double play followed on a popped up bunt. Gehring then single to right to score Poxleitner and give Prairie a 2-1 lead. Troy’s only baserunner in the bottom of the fourth came on a 2-out error. Prairie added 2 more runs in the fifth. Quintal reached on an error with 1 out. McElroy then tripled to right field, scoring Quintal. A bad pickoff throw at third allowed McElroy to score and make it 4-1. After a second out, Poxleitner beat out and infield single. Riener and Labrum were walked to load the bases. Troy then pulled Christensen and the new pitcher got the final out to end the inning. In the bottom of the fifth Labrum got an out then gave up a walk and a single. After a second out, a groundball to short ended the inning. The Pirates went down in order in the sixth. In the bottom of the inning Labrum got 2 outs then gave up a single and hit a batter before ending the inning with a strikeout. In the sixth McElroy led off with a walk and Schumacher singled to left center on a hit and run play as McElroy moved to third. After an out, Riener hit a deep fly to center that scored McElroy. Labrum then reached on a dropped third strike with Schumacher scoring to make it 6-1. Troy had a lead off single in the bottom of the seventh but Labrum got the next 3 hitters to end the game. Labrum pitched all 7 innings and allowed 1 unearned run on 4 hits with 7 strikeouts, 1 hit batsman and 1 walk. The Pirates had 6 hits led by Poxleitner who had 2 singles. McElroy had a triple and an RBI. Riener and Gehring each had a single and an RBI. Schumacher had a single. In the second inning Troy’s leadoff hitter reached on a dropped third strike. He stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored the game’s first run on a squeeze bunt. Poxleitner led off the bottom of the second with a single to left. Schwartz went in to run. Riener doubled to right with Schwartz held up at third. Schwartz scored on a passed ball on ball 4 to Gehring. Riener moved to third on the play. Riener then was picked off and stayed in the rundown long enough for Gehring to advance all the way to third. Gehring then scored when Labrum reached on a passed ball on strike 3. That gave Prairie a 2-1 lead. In the third, Riener got the first out then ran into trouble. A single up the middle and 2 stolen bases led to a run on a groundout to tie the score. A walk and a pair of singles led to 2 more runs before he got out of the inning with a fielder’s choice. Prairie answered back in the bottom of the third. With 1 out, Quintal hit a line drive to right that was dropped for an error. He stole second and then stole third. McElroy was walked. A delayed double steal scored Quintal. Troy changed pitchers and Schumacher greeted the new pitcher with a fly ball to right that was dropped for another error. Schumacher stole second and when the ball got away into left field, McElroy scored with Schumacher winding up on third. Poxleitner hit a dribbler in the infield and Schumacher beat the throw home as Poxleitner reached first on a single. Schwartz went in to run and went to second on an error. He stole third and scored on another error on the pickoff attempt. That gave Prairie a 6-4 lead. Quintal went in to pitch to start the fourth. The leadoff hitter reached on an error. After 2 outs, Troy hit a double to right but the runner was held up a third. Quintal then got out of the inning with a comebacker. Seubert led off the bottom of the inning and was hit by a pitch. Warren followed with a bunt single and stole second. Seubert scored on an errant pickoff attempt. Quintal walked. McElroy hit a grounder to short with an error leading to both Warren and Quintal scoring and McElroy winding up at second. Troy changed pitchers again. The first pitch from the new pitcher was a wild pitch that sent McElroy to third. Schumacher scored McElroy on a sacrifice fly to center. Poxleitner singled to left with Schwartz going in to run. Schwartz went to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on an error and scored on another wild pitch to make it 11-4. In the top of the fifth an error put the leadoff hit on. Quintal then got the next 3 hitters on a comebacker and 2 strikeouts. In the bottom of the inning VonBargen pinch-hit for Labrum and reached on an error. Seubert singled on a hit and run as VonBargen wound up at third. VonBargen scored on a wild pitch to make it 12-4. In the top of the sixth Troy got 1 base runner on a 1-out hit batsman before a strikeout and a fly out to center ended the inning. The game was then called due to time limit. Prairie had 6 hits in the game. Riener had a double. Poxleitner had 2 singles and an RBI. McElroy, Seubert and Warren each had a single. Riener pitched 3 innings and gave up 4 runs on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks. Quintal pitched 3 innings and gave up no runs on 1 hit with 4 strikeouts and 1 hit batsman. Prairie is now 11-3 overall and 6-3 in league play.
