Pirates win 5 straight The Prairie Pirates have put together a 5-game winning streak. They started with a 31-4 win over Nezperce on Tuesday, April1 5 at Cottonwood. On Thursday, April 17, they won 18-2 at Nezperce. On Saturday, April 19, they traveled to Genesee and swept the Bulldogs 8-5 and 25-8. Finally on Monday, April 21, they traveled to Lewiston and defeated Lapwai 17-1. Vs. Nezperce In the game against Nezperce on Tuesday, starting pitcher Devon Poxleitner set down the side in order in the first inning.![]() In the bottom of the first the Pirates sent 30 hitters to the plate and scored 25 runs. Phil Schwartz led off with a walk and stole second. Levi McElroy doubled to right center to score Schwartz. Carter Shears singled to center to score McElroy. Jake Quintal was hit by a pitch and Collin Ray reached on an error with Shears scoring. Chris Schumacher walked to load the bases. Kade Quintal bunted for a base hit with Jake Quintal scoring. Poxleitner walked and Noah Geis went in as a courtesy runner. Ray scored on a wild pitch and Schumacher scored on an error. Geis stole second and Kade Quintal scored on a delayed double steal. Chase VonBargen walked and Schwartz singled to right to score Geis and went to second on an error by the right fielder. McElroy singled to left to score VonBargen. Shears walked to load the bases and Jake Quintal singled to left to score Schwartz and McElroy. Ray walked to reload the bases. Schumacher singled to left to score Shears. Kade Quintal walked to score Jake Quintal. Nezperce then changed pitchers. Poxleitner singled to left and the ball got past the left fielder for an error to score Ray and Schumacher. Geis again went in to run for Poxleitner. VonBargen walked but was forced at second by Schwartz for the first out of the inning. McElroy walked to reload the bases. Shears walked to score Geis. Jake Quintal then singled to right to score both Schwartz and McElroy. Ray walked to load the bases and Schumacher walked to scored Shears. Kade Quintal reached on an error with Jake Quintal and Ray both scoring. Poxleitner then walked to reload the bases. After a second out Zach Schumacher walked to score Chris Schumacher. Peter Remacle was hit by a pitch to score Kade Quintal. Max Rehder walked to score Geis. Nezperce then finally got the third out. Poxleitner had thrown some to try and keep loose during the long inning but wasn’t as sharp in the top of the second as he hit 2 batters and walked 2 others to lead to a run by Nezperce. Prairie added 6 more runs in the bottom of the second. Jake Quintal led off with a single up the middle. Ray followed with a single up the middle. After an out, Kade Quintal walked to load the bases. Oliver VanHouten was hit by a pitch to score Jake Quintal. After a second out, Zach Schumacher walked again to score Ray. Remacle singled to score Kade Quintal. Rehder then singled to score both VanHouten and Zach Schumacher. Jake Quintal was hit by a pitch to reload the bases and Ray walked to score Remacle and make it 31-1/ In the top of the third Poxleitner was wild and walked the first two batters. Wild pitches led to a run scoring. Nezperce then got their first, and only, hit of the game, a 2-run homer to right to make it 31-4. The homer turned out to be a rally killer as Poxleitner struck out the next two hitters and got the final out on a fly ball to right. Prairie had 13 hits in the game led by Jake Quintal who had 3 singles and 4 RBI. McElroy had a single and a double and 2 RBI. Rehder had a single and 3 RBI. Shears, Kade Quintal, Ray, Chris Schumacher and Poxleitner each had a single and 2 RBI. Remacle and Schwartz each had a single and an RBI. Zach Schumacher and VanHouten each had an RBI. Nezperce, Prairie didn’t get off to quite as big of a start but they
still scored 7 runs in the opening inning.With 1 out McElroy reached on an error and advanced to second on the play. Shears then doubled to left to score McElroy. Shears advanced to third on a wild pitch and then stole home to make it 2-0. Jake Quintal and Ray each walked. After a second out Kade Quintal was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jake Quintal scored on a wild pitch and Poxleitner then walked to reload the bases. Ray scored on another wild pitch and Geis then walked to again reload the bases. Schwartz doubled to right to score both Kade Quintal and Poxleitner. McElroy reached on an error again with Geis scoring to make it 7-0. Shears walked but then an out on the bases ended the inning. Kade Quintal started on the mound and in the bottom of the first the leadoff hitter reached on an error. The baserunner advanced to second and third on passed balls and eventually scored on a steal of home with 2 outs. After a single, Kade Quintal induced an infield popup to get out of the inning. Jake Quintal walked to lead off the second inning and Ray followed with a walk. A throwing error on a pickoff throw by the catcher allowed Jake Quintal to score. Chris Schumacher then singled to left with Ray being held up at third. Kade Quintal singled to right to score Ray with Schumacher advancing to third. Poxleitner doubled to right to score Schumacher with Kade Quintal being held up at third. Geis was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Kade Quintal to make it 11-1. A popup and a strikeout then ended the inning. Kade Quintal got the side out in order in the bottom of the second on 2 strikeouts and a groundout to first. Jake Quintal led off the third with a single to center. Ray then walked. After an out, Jake Quintal advanced from second to home on a wild pitch to make it 12-1. Kade Quintal then walked. Nezperce then changed pitchers and Poxleitner doubled to right to score Ray with Kade Quintal held up at third. Geis then singled on a looper behind second to load the bases as the runners had to hold. Schwartz singled to left to score Kade Quintal. McElroy drew a walk to score Poxleitner. Shears doubled to center to score both Geis and Schwartz. Drake Cronan pinch-hit for Jake Quintal and picked up an RBI on a ground out to third as McElroy scores to make it 18-1. Prairie had to keep Nezperce from scoring 3 in the bottom of the third to end the game on the 15-run mercy rule. Schwartz went to the mound and the first batter he faced reached on an error. After a popup to third, a single and a hit by pitch loaded the bases. After a strikeout, a walk forced home a run for Nezperce. Remacle then got a strikeout to end the game. Shers then singled to right to score both runners and tie the game at 2-2. Jake Quintal singled to right with an error in right allowing Shears to score and Quintal to go to second. Schwarts struck out the side in the top of the second. After 2 strikeouts in the bottom of the second, McElroy drew a walk. McElroy then stole second and third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher to make it 4-2. In the top of the third an error and a single put 2 runners on base but Schwartz then put the next 3 hitters out on 2 strikeouts and a popup to short. Jake Quintal led off the bottom of the third with a double. Ray followed with a bunt single with an error on the play allowing Quintal to score and Ray to make it to second. A flyout, caught stealing and strikeout ended the inning with Prairie up 5-2. In the fourth Schwartz gave up a 2-out triple but then got a groundout to end the inning. Schwartz drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the fourth and a balk moved him to second. He then scored on a single by McElroy. After a strikeout, a double play ended the inning. Schwartz set the side down in order in the fifth on 2 strikeouts and a ground out. Ray led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and Chris Schumacher walked. Kade Quintal hit a sacrifice bunt to move up the runners. Both runners then scored on a single to center by Poxleitner to make it 8-2. In the top of the sixth, 2 errors, 2 hit batsmen and a single led to 3 Genesee runs before Schwartz got a fly ball to center to end the game on time limit. Schwartz advanced to second on a wild pitch and then stole third. McElroy walked and then stole second. Shears singled to left with both runners scoring for a quick 2-0 lead. After an out, Ray walked and Chris Schumacher reached on an error that allowed Shears to score for a 3-0 lead. Kade Quintal started on the mound and got 2 outs on a ground out and strikeout. A hit batsman and a walk were followed by another error with a run scoring for Genesee. A strikeout ended the inning with Prairie up 3-1. In the second VonBargen walked to lead off the inning. After 2 strikeouts, Shears singled to left. Jake Quintal then singled to right to score VonBargen for a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the second Genesee started the inning with a single. After a forceout, an error and a single loaded the bases. Another single scored a run. A sacrifice fly made it 4-3. Another single scored 2 runs to give Genesee their first lead of the day at 4-5. In the top of the third things unraveled for Genesee. Chris Schumacher led off with a single and Kade Quintal also singled. Poxleitner reached on a dropped fly ball which allowed Schumacher to score and tie the game. A passed ball allowed Kade Quintal to score and give Prairie back the lead. VonBargen drew a walk. Schwartz bunted the ball toward third and reached on an error to load the bases. McElroy then cleared the bases with a 3-run double to center. Shears walked and he and McElroy pulled off a double steal. Jake Quintal reached on an error that allowed both baserunners to score and make it 11-5. Ray reached on a bunt single and an error on the play allowed Quintal to score from second. Genesee changed pitchers and Schumacher greeted him with a single to left with Ray advancing to third. Kade Quintal singled to right to score Ray. Poxleitner singled to left to score Schumacher. An error on the play allowed Quintal to go to third and Poxleitner to second. After a strikeout, Schwartz singled to left to score Quintal and make it 15-5. McElroy reached on an error with Poxleitner scoring. After a second out, Schwartz and McElroy pulled off a double steal. Genesee wound up scoring by stealing home but the inning ended when the trail runner was thrown out trying to steal second. In the fourth Schumacher led off with a triple to center. game against Lapwai as Prairie exploded for 17 runs in the second
inning while Lapwai was held to just 1 hit. Prairie went down in order in the first inning and Kade Quintal did the same to Lapwai in the bottom of the first.Lapwai sent the same pitcher out for the second inning but the results were much different than the first. Jake Quintal started things innocuously enough by beating out a slow roller that only went about 20 feet. He went to second on a wild pitch and Ray followed with a walk a double steal moved the runners up. Chris Schumacher walked to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Quintal and moved the other two runners up. Another wild pitch scored Ray and moved Schumacher to third. Kade Quintal then singled to center to score Schumacher. He stole second and then stole third. Poxleitner was hit by a pitch and stole second. A passed ball scored Kade Quintal and moved Poxleitner to third. Geis walked and stole second. Schwartz then tripled to deep right field scoring both Poxleitner and Geis. McElroy walked and stole second. After a popup for the first out, Jake Quintal hit a liner to center that was caught but Schwartz was able to tag up and score. McElroy then stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Ray walked and Schumacher was hit by a pitch. Kade Quintal singled to right to score Ray with Schumacher going to third. Quintal went to second on the throw to home. Poxleitner was walked to load the bases. Geis walked to score Schumacher. Schwartz walked to score Quintal. McElroy then dropped a flare into the hole between second and the centerfielder for a 2 run single. McElroy stole second and Shears was hit by a pitch to reload the bases. Lapwai changed pitchers and Jake Quintal hit a short fly ball just out of the reach of the third baseman to score Schwartz. A wild pitch scored McElroy and moved the other two runners up a base. Ray then singled to left to score both Shears and Quintal. That made it 17-0. McElroy took over on the mound in the second inning as coach Dave Shears was making it so all his pitchers would be available for the doubleheader against Troy on Tuesday. Schwartz gave up a 1-out walk and with 2 outs the batter reached on a passed ball on a swinging strike 3. McElroy then got out of the inning with a strikeout. In the third Shears gave bench players Oliver Van Houten, Mex Rehder, Zack Schumacher and Drake Cronan each a chance to hit. Rehder singled and Schumacher walked but a double play ended the inning with no one scoring. Jake Quintal went to the mound in the third and started the inning with a strikeout.
