Pirates win 2 of 4 The Prairie baseball team won 2 of the final 4 games of their regular season this past week. On Tuesday, April 22, they traveled to Lewiston and swept a doubleheader against Troy 18-8 and 21-2. On Thursday, April 24, they hosted Clearwater Valley and lost 10-21. Finally on Saturday, April 26, they hosted Potlatch and lost 6-9. They finished the regular season with a record of 9-6, 8-6 in league play. That puts them in fifth place meaning they will play at C.V. Wednesday, April 30 at 5 p.m. in a District play-in game. Game 1 vs. Troy The first game against
Troy didn’t start well as Troy’s first 5 batters all reached base
against Levi McElroy and they wound up scoring 3 runs.![]() However Prairie answered back in the bottom of the first. Phil Schwartz was hit by a pitch and McElroy and Carter Shears both reached on errors with Schwartz and McElroy scoring. Shears wound up at second on the play. He advanced to third on another error and scored on Jake Quintal’s single to right cetner to tie the game at 3-3. Troy added 3 more runs in the second without benefit of a hit as McElroy hit 2 batters and walked 2 others. Prairie took the lead for good in the bottom of the second. Schwartz hit a 1-out double and advanced to third on a fly ball out by McElroy. Sheas again reached on an error with Schwartz scoring. Jake Quintal singled and Collin Ray walked to load the bases. Chris Schumacher reached on an error, scoring, Shears. Kade Quintal hit a fly ball to left that was dropped for an error with Quintal and Ray scoring. An error on the throw back to the infield allowed Schumacher to score. Devon Poxleitner was hit by a pitch and Max Rehder reached on an error. Schwartz singled to right to scored both Quintal and Chase VonBargen, who was running for Poxleitner. McElroy then singled up the middle to score both Rehder and Schwartz and make it 12-6. Troy got a pair of hits and a run in the third with a pickoff play helping Prairie limit the damage. In the bottom of the third Jake Quintal singled to right and went to second on another error. Ray sacrificed him to third and Quintal scored on Schumacher’s infield hit to make it 13-7. In the fourth McElroy gave up a walk and then picked off the runner. With a 1-2 count, McElroy hit the back-to-back days pitching limit and Kade Quintal went to the mound. He gave up an infield hit. A groundout moved the runner to second and another infield hit moved him to third. A balk scored the runner to make it 13-8. Poxleitner led of the fourth with a singled to left. After an out, Schwartz reached on an error. McElroy singled to right center to score Poxleitner. Shears doubled to left to score both Schwartz and McElroy. Troy then changed pitchers and was able to get out of the inning down 16-8. Kade Quintal set the side down in order in the fifth. Prairie was unable to score in the bottom of the inning despite another error by Troy. In the sixth Quintal gave up just a 2-out hit by pitch then got out of the inning with a grounder to second. McElroy led off the bottom of the sixth with a single to left center. He stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. After an out, Jake Quintal reached on an error with McElroy scoring. Ray singled to right and Schumacher walked to load the bases. Kade Quintal then singled to bring home his brother Jake with the run that gave Prairie a 10-run lead and ended the game on the mercy rule. Prairie had 13 hits in the game led by McElroy with 3 singles and 3 RBI. Jake Quintal also had 3 singles with 2 RBI. Schwartz had a double and a single and 2 RBI. Shears ha a double and 3 RBI. Kade Quintal had a single and 2 RBI. Schumacher had a single and an RBI and Poxleitner had a single. Schwartz pitched 3 plus innings and gave up 7 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts, 5 walks and 2 hit batsmen. Kade Quintal pitched 3 innings and gave up 1 run on 2 hits with 1 hit batsman. the second game and Schwartz led off with a single to left. McElroy
followed with a single up the middle. A groundout advanced both
runners. Jake Quintal singled to right center to score Schwartz.
McElroy scored on a wild pitch. Ray singled up the middle but he and Quintal were left on base as Prairie took a 2-0 lead.Kade Quintal continued on the mound and gave up a leadoff hit. A hit batsman moved the runner up. A steal of third led to a sacrifice fly scoring a run for the Trojans to make it 2-1. Quintal got out of the inning with a fly ball to right. Kade Quintal led off the second inning with an infield hit. Devon Poxleitner followed with a single to left. A groundout moved the runners to second and third. After a second out, McElroy doubled to left to score Quintal with Poxleitner held up at third. A fly ball ended the inning with Prairie up 3-1. A leadoff triple led to a run when Quintal was called for a balk. That made it 3-2. The errors started up again for Troy in the third inning. Jake Quintal was hit by the first pitch of the inning. Ray reached on an error and Schumacher reached on another error with Quintal scoring. Kade Quintal singled to score Ray. Poxleitner doubled to score Schumacher but Kade Quintal was held up a third. Prairie now led 6-3. Quintal gave up just a 2-out single in the bottom of the third. In the top of the fourth Prairie sent 15 hitters to the plate. Shears started things with a single to right center. Jake Quintal beat out an infield hit. Ray reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Schumacher reached on an error as Shears scored. Kade Quintal singled to score both Jake Quintal and Ray. Poxleitner reached on an error with Schumacher scoring. After an out, Schwartz reached on an error with Kade Quintal scoring. Troy changed pitchers and McElroy reached on an error as Poxleitner scored. Shears’ fly ball to center was dropped with Schwartz scoring. Jake Quintal walked to load the bases. McElroy scored on a wild pitch and Shears scored on an other wild pitch. Ray singled to left to score jake Quintal and make it 16-2. Schumacher took over on the mound and Troy was able to load the bases on an error, hit batsman and a walk. A strikeout and a pop fly to short got Prairie out of the inning. In the fifth Rehder led off with a walk and Schwartz was hit by a pitch. Troy changed pitchers and McElroy’s fly ball to right was dropped, loading the bases. Shears was walked, scoring Rehder. Jake Quintal singled to right to scored both Schwartz and McElroy. Ray was hit by a pitch to reload the bases. Schumacher reached on an error with 2 more runs scoring to make it 21-2. In the bottom of the fifth Schumacher walked the leadoff batter then got 3 straight outs to end the game on the 10-run mercy rule. Prairie had 15 hits in the game led by Jake Quintal and Kade Quintal, each with 3 singles and 3 RBI and Ray who also had 3 singles with 1 RBI. Poxleitner and McElroy each had a double and a single and 2 RBI. Shears had a single and 2 RBI and Schwartz had a single and an RBI. Kade Quintal pitched 3 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits with 2 strikeouts and a hit batsman. In the bottom of the first Schwartz reached on an error to lead off the inning. After 2 outs, Jake Quintal singled to left to score Schwartz and make it 1-7. C.V. added 2 more runs in the second on 4 hits and an error. Schumacher led off the bottom of the second with an infield hit. Kade Quintal’s fly ball to right was dropped for an error with Schumacher advancing to third. Schumacher scored on Poxleitner’s sacrifice fly to center to make it 2-9. Schwartz gave up a 1-out single in the third. The runner moved to second on a ground out but the inning ended when he was caught trying to steal third. Shears led off the bottom of the third with a single up the middle and Jake Quintal followed with another single. Ray reached on an error with Shears scoring. Schumacher scored Jake Quintal with a fielder’s choice as C.V. failed to get Quintal at the plate. That made it 4-9 after 3. C.V. scored 3 more in the fourth on 2 singles, a walk and 2 errors. Prairie got back into the game in the bottom of the fourth. Schwartz led off with a walk and McElroy followed with a single to right. Shears then hit a 3-run homer to right center. Jake Quintal followed with an infield single and stole second. He scored when Ray reached on an error. Schumacher reached on a bunt single. Kade Quintal hit a comebacker with Ray getting thrown out at third on the force. Schumacher stole third and then scored on Rehder’s infield single. Schwartz walked and McElroy was hit by a pitch to score Kade Quintal and make it 10-11. Things unraveled in the top of the fifth as C.V. answered back with 9 runs on 5 hits with 4 errors. Jake Quintal went to the mound with 2 outs and 5 runs in and C.V. scored 4 more before he got the final out. Prairie loaded the bases with 1 out in the bottom of the fifth but a comebacker to the mound led to a game-ending double play. Prairie had 11 hits in the game led by Shears with a homer and a single and 3 RBI. Jake Quintal had 3 singles and an RBI. Schumacher had 3 singles. McElroy and Rehder each had a single and an RBI. Kade Quintal had a single. Schwartz pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed 18 runs on 15 hits with 3 strikeouts, 3 walks and 2 hit batsmen. Potlatch In their regular season finale where the seniors were honored, Prairie lost 6-9 to league champion Potlatch.Prior to the game seniors Shears, Jake Quintal, Ray, Peter Remacle, Drake Cronan and Noah Geis were honored as well as statkeeper Wyatt Latimer. Latimer was also tasked with a ceremonial first pitch. Kade Quintal started on the mound and gave up just 1 baserunner in the first inning. That came on a 2-out error. In the bottom of the first Schwartz led off with a single. Schwartz then advanced all the way to third on a wild pitch. McElroy walked. Schwartz then scored on another wild pitch. Shears drew a walk. After an out, McElroy scored on a squeeze bunt by Ray. Potlatch tied it in the second on a double and 2 singles. Prairie went down in order in the bottom of the second. Potlatch took their first lead in the third on a leadoff home run. Prairie took back the lead in the bottom of the third. Schwartz was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. McElroy followed with a 2-run homer to right for a 4-3 lead. Shears was hit by a pitch. He stole second and went to third on an error. After an out, Shears scored on a single by Ray to give Prairie a 5-3 lead. Potlatch scored a run on an error and a triple in the fourth. Prairie got only a 2-out walk by Schwartz in the fourth. Potlatch regained the lead in the fifth after a leadoff error and 2-run homer. Prairie went down in order in the bottom of the fifth. Potlatch added 3 more runs in the sixth on 3 singles and a double. In the bottom of the sixth Prairie made 2 quick outs then Poxleitner reached on an error and Geis and Schwartz were both walked to load the bases. McElroy was hit by a pitch to score Poxleitner. That made it 6-9. Potlatch had a leadoff single in the seventh but Quintal then recorded 3 straight outs. In the bottom of the seventh, 2 fly ball outs and a strikeout ended the game. Prairie had 4 hits in the game. McElroy had a homer and 3 RBI. Ray had a single and 2 RBI. Schwartz and Schumacher each had a single. Kade Quintal pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing 9 runs, 6 earned, on 12 hits with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk. McElroy came in to get the final out.
