The Lewis Soil Conservation District hosted their 52^nd Annual 6th Grade Field Day event at Winchester Lake State Park on Wednesday, May 7th. ​The weather was perfect!
The event was attended by 107 students from Kamiah, Highland, St John Bosco, and Prairie school districts.​ Throughout the day, the students rotated through eight different stations, spending 20 minutes at each.​ The stations included "Soils and Geology" instructed by Eileen Rowan of the Idaho Soil and Water Conservation Commission and Alyssa Brotnov, theLewis County 4-H Coordinator; "Take Me Fishing" was hosted by Jennifer Bruns, Cheylee Corle, and Morgan Deards of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, and assisted by Matt Becker of the Natural Resource  Conservation Service (NRCS) and Shelly Lucier of the Lewis County U of I Extension Office;"Fire Control" was instructed by Owen Case, Ross Rehberg, and Sheldon Schademan of the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL); "Forestry" presented by Chris Gerhart, Dave Luther, and Emily Spets from IDL; "Air Quality" was instructed by Johna Boulafentis of the Nezperce Tribe Air Quality Program, “Fish Science” was instructed by Corie Samson and Laura Sprague of the US Fish and Wildlife Services at the Dworshak Fish Hatchery;a "Nature Trail" hike was led by LSCD board supervisor Tyler Nelson; "Canoeing" was hosted by Alex Arnold, Tia Schumacher, Neosha Hubbs, and Breanna Deards of the NRCS, Mariah Truax of Pheasants Forever, and Klae O’Brien of the U of I Lewis County Extension Office. Jennifer Bernica of the Farm Services Agency assisted with setup, timekeeping, lunch preparation, and takedown. ​Leann Trautman of the Winchester Quick Response Unit was there to ensure everyone’s safety. The LSCD would like to thank the students, teachers, volunteers, instructors, and Winchester Lake State Park personnel for making this another successful year.
