The next 40th Anniversary Open House is coming up on Thursday, June 19 from 11AM-3PM. At 1:30 we will have a special hour-long presentation, Farm to Table, Sustainable Ag, Meats & More, by Tobe Finch from the perspective of his company, Happy Day Restaurants/Local, to found a butcher shop that provides Prairie raised beef for several of his Lewiston restaurants and the company’s plans to expand to include other locally produced healthy foods for his restaurants and beyond. Refreshments will include foods containing local ingredients. Plan to come learn more about this growing food movement for consumers and producers. Joan has reviewed the 1975 book, Idaho’s Place In the Sun, by Helen M. Newell. Ms. Newel describes several events that occurred in Idaho history, 1802 - 1955. Topics included are: The Lewis & Clark Expedition, the Beaver trappers, several missions in North Central Idaho, the Idaho Chinese and discovery of silver in Kellogg. She also writes about the Civil War in Idaho, the Idaho timber business, the Basques in Idaho, the cattle and sheep businesses, and the development of the Idaho National Laboratory and nuclear energy in Southeast Idaho. As the author stated, Idaho’s history has not been dull, and she verifies that in this book. June is Audiobook Appreciation Month. Tuesday June 10th is National Ballpoint Pen Day, remembering the patent was filed on 10 June 1943. Saturday the 14th is Flag Day, be sure to fly your Stars & Stripes.
