Another 40th anniverary event set for June 19
Prairie Community Library in Cottonwood will host a 40th anniversary
open house on Thursday June 19 from 11am-3 pm at the library, 506 King
Street basement. A special presentation, Farm to Table Foods,
Sustainable Ag, Meats and More, will be at 1:30 pm. The talk by Tobe
Finch, president of Lewiston’s Happy Day Restaurants and Happy Day
Local butcher plant, will cover the background to the founding of the
butcher facility that processes Nezperce area Big Canyon Beef for some
of the company’s valley restaurants including Mystic Café, Zany’s,
Tomato Bros & Main Street Grill. Finch will also discuss future
efforts to connect local small-scale farmers, ranchers, and perhaps
gardeners, with consistent markets for their products. Mr. Finch
attributes his religious faith as instrumental in guiding his business
decisions, in this case to deliver healthier and more sustainably
produced foods to consumers.
Refreshments using local ingredients, tours of the library, door prizes, raffles, and more will round out the open house. This is the second of four events hosted by the library in the coming months. The library was founded forty years ago by community volunteers from Cottonwood, Greencreek, Ferdinand, & Keuterville, which is the library’s service area. It continues to be a fully volunteer-staffed and patron funded library, one of the very few Idaho libraries that operate without tax support. All are welcome to attend. The library located in the basement of City Hall and ramp access is at the back of the building. For more information visit Facebook.com/PrairieCommunityLibrary or call 208 962-3714. | COTTONWOOD
