Big shoes to fill
Between a resignation and non-renewed contracts, Prairie High School lost quite a big of coaching legacy. Jeff Martin, who resigned as head softball coach, took over in 2009 and wound up winning state titles in 2009, 2011 and 2012. He also had to westher the down side of losing a season to Covid and another season to lack of players. He also had several state championships at Culdesac before coming to Prairie. His coaching record at Prairie was 220 wins and 109 losses in 15 seasons as head coach. In addition to his 3 state titles he also finished 2nd 3 times, third twice and fourth once. His teams made it to state in 10 of his 15 seasons. Lori Mader's contract was not renewed after 15 seasons as head coach. Her teams made it to state all 15 years with two firsts, 8 seconds, 3 thirds and two fifths. She never lost a first round game at state and wound up with a record of 304-82. Julie Schumacher, whose contract also was not renewed, took over from Cheyenne Hudson in 2017. She made it to state twice, in 2018 and 2024. Each time finishing fifth with 1 win and 2 losses. David Shears, another whose contract was not renewed, was in his second stint as head baseball coach, serving a total of 5 years. He made it to state twice in 2018 and 2023, finishing in third each time. | COTTONWOOD
