To the Library and Beyond On Thursday, July 10, the Board of Directors of Prairie Community Library, Inc. will hold a meeting at 10 AM in the Library. Join us if you can. Until then, remember to “Like” us on Facebook “Prairie Community Library.” “Volunteering is at the very core of being human.” Our next 40th Anniversary Open House & Party is coming up on Tuesday July 22nd from 10-3 PM. The theme is Christmas in July. It will feature a Christmas book walk in the library. Remember the old-fashioned cake walks? This is similar, except instead of winning cakes, winners will receive books. We’re also having an ornament swap – bring one in and take one from the tree. We need donations of some Christmas ornaments for the tree which will be decorated right after July 4th. If you have an unwanted ornament or two, kindly bring them in soon to start the swap. Joan has reviewed the 2015 book, Killing Reagan, by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard. “This is a very interesting book!” This biography of Ronald Reagan begins in 1937 with his first Hollywood movie as an actor. It covers his short marriage to Jane Wyman and his later marriage to Nancy Davis Reagan. In all, Mr. Reagan made 53 movies and starred in some TV shows, too. In 1967, the actor became governor of California. The book details some of Richard Nixon’s presidency, and the Watergate scandal. Then Reagan became president in 1980, succeeding Jimmy Carter. The book also details Reagan’s attempted assassination by John Hinckley in March 1981, and Reagan’s presidency. Throughout Ronald and Nancy’s marriage, the book describes how Nancy aided him through many difficult times. In 2004, Mr. Reagan died from Alzheimer’s disease. July is Park and Recreation Month and Ice Cream Month, so it’s a good time to recreate in the park with ice-cream. The volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community Library are committed to learning from changes in our communities: Learning how we can better serve our patrons. Send your volunteer message to cottonwoodlib@gmail.com. “Volunteering helps us celebrate our gifts by giving something back.” Please recommend improvements to the Library’s direction, priorities and customer service. Thank you all! | COTTONWOOD
