To the Library and Beyond
Feeling summer hot? We’re thinking Christmas and the season’s coolness.
Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree! It will soon be up for our Christmas-in-July 40th Anniversary Party on Tuesday July 22nd from 10 AM - 3 PM.
Please bring in any unwanted Christmas ornaments to get the tree decorated for our ornament swap on the 22nd.  For every ornament donated you can then take a different one home. Kids will particularly enjoy the Book Walk to be held at 10 AM on the 22nd.  We’ll have other prizes, drawings, Christmas cookie refreshments.   Join us for the fun.
Meanwhile don’t forget the library is cool on the hot days of summer.
Story hour is in full swing on Tuesdays at 10 AM and the Summer Reading Program is underway, too, for kids and youth. Join in anytime for chances to win some cool prizes.
Joan has reviewed the 1921 book, Journal Of a Trapper – Nine Years In the Rocky Mountains, by Osborne Russell.  “This is a very interesting book, with firsthand accounts of historical events.”  It is the journal of the author’s nine years in the northwest Wyoming – southeast Idaho area during the years 1834 to 1843.  Mr. Russell described the land in all of this area, including many streams and the valleys surrounding them.  He wrote about the establishment, in July of 1834, of Fort Hall in southeast Idaho, and working as a fur trapper with Jim Bridger’s company.  Mr. Russell attended several of the famous annual rendezvous events at Green River, Wyoming.  He also described his experiences hunting buffalo, trapping beaver, and many encounters with hostile Indians such as the Crow and Blackfeet.
July is “Read an Almanac Month.”  Last month Prairie Community Library served 303 patrons, 54 of them on Tuesday 3 June.  We loaned a total of 366 items, with the most being 81 for one day, on Tuesday 24 June; 70 of which were children’s items.  Although no story-tellers were available on Tuesday 17 June, a total of 51 Story-Hour attendees were edu-tained, and librarians added 44 items to the shelves.  “Volunteerism is the voice of the people put into action.”  The volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community Library are committed to finding partners and projects that complement our mission and purpose.
Send your volunteer message to cottonwoodlib@gmail.com.  Volunteering helps us explore our interests, and improves our self-esteem.”  Please recommend improvements to the Library’s direction, priorities and customer service.  Thank you all!
