To the Library and Beyond Last week we enjoyed a visit from Spud Oliver Ellsworth to help the story hour and summer reading program kids celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday. Spud’s spokesperson, Kari Holman, asked the kids questions about our country's origins and Spud Ellsworth’s part in its founding. Everyone received special Spud Ellsworth swag including pencils, badges, coloring books& fact cards. The next library event will be Jeno Hankerson talking about flag facts and the branches of the US military. This will take place during story hour on Tuesday July 21st from 10-11. It is a bonus event for summer reading program participants as well, earning them another red ticket to increase their chances of winning a prize at the program’s conclusion in August. On Tuesday July 28th the kids will be treated to a sing-along led by Kristin &Friends on their ukuleles during story hour from 10-11. It will be fun for all. It also counts as a patriotic summer reading program event. Plans are finalizing for the much asked for return of the free Concert & Picnic in the Park! Mr. John Eynon will be back to conduct the Prairie Community Concert Band which has been reassembled and practicing this summer. The big date is Tuesday Aug 11 at 6:30 pm. Bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets and picnic dinner to enjoy a summer evening in Cottonwood’s shady City Park with your family, friends, and eighbors. The library will be offering dessert refreshments and beverages for a donation to your community library. Please help spread the word and mark your calendars for this relaxed pre-County Fair evening of great music. Reminder for Summer Reading Program participants that Tues August 11th is the grand finale day of the program to turn in their completed flag for more chances to win prizes that will be awarded between 10 & 11 am. Also there will be a craft event to make a patriotic decoration to cap the program’s theme of Stars, Stripes and Reading. Reading or listening to stories connects us and helps us make sense of the world. So keep on reading! Frances Conklin ![]() Idaho spud Oliver Ellsworth visits the library summer reading program.
