To the Library and Beyond
Christmas cookies are baked, presents wrapped, and the tree is decorated for our community Christmas in July Party on Tuesday the 22nd.  Bring the kids, grandkids, visiting cousins, or anyone else, to the coolness of the library for a fun time. The party starts at 10 AM with Carissa reading a Christmas story or two.  Following that is the book walk where each time the Christmas tunes stop someone wins a book! Also, don’t forget to bring an unwanted tree ornament to swap it for another one from the tree. On hand will be a broad selection of nearly new condition books costing $1 each for early holiday shopping opportunities. Especially nice are numerous lovely coffee table books for that impressive gift. Come join us for the party!  Christmas attire optional.
Joan has reviewed the 1976 book, Idaho: A History, by F. Ross Peterson.  “This is a fascinating history of Idaho written by a native-born Idahoan and history professor.”  Mr. Peterson begins by describing the natural wonders of Idaho.  In successive chapters, the author writes about the Lewis & Clark Expedition, gold discoveries, and trappers and missionaries who worked in the state.  Additional historical topics include white men’s clashes with Native American Nez Perce and Shoshone tribes and Idaho Territorial days.  He relates the achievement of Idaho statehood in 1890, activities of the railroads, miners, timber companies, and creators of southern Idaho irrigation canals.  Mr. Peterson continues with the 1930s depression years and Idaho under the New Deal.  He provides information about Senators William Borah and Frank Church and the wilderness movement as it pertains to Idaho.
During July we recognize the courage and perseverance of those with disabilities, their unique identities and their contributions to society.  If you know someone in need of library services for the blind and/or print-disabled, please contact the Library to let us know how we can help.
The volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community Library aspire to make library service to the surrounding communities the basic tenet of all our policies.  “Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.”
Send your volunteer message to cottonwoodlib@gmail.com.  Volunteering helps us feel happier and increases our social skills.”  Please recommend improvements to the Library’s direction, priorities and customer service.  Thank you all!
