The school board voted to approve the preschool agreement and to purchase a new bus at their July meeting Monday, July 20.
The preschool agreement had the same terms as last year.
A new bus, if ordered now, would arrive in the spring of 2028. They already have one that was ordered last year and is expected to arrive this coming spring.
Prior to the meeting the board toured the Elementary School.
They accepted a could of resignations. Casey Metz resigned as ASB Advisor and Whitney Wonderlich resigned as high school cheer coach.
A preliminary list of extra-curricular assignments was reviewed by the board. They will approve a final list at the August meeting.
It was voted to keep facility use rates the same as last year.
Several policy updates were discussed. Policies 3380 and 3400 were updated to make language consistent. 3380 deals with student extracurricular activities and 3400 with drug testing for students in those activities. Both were approved by the board with the recommended changes.
Changes to Policy 2550 were approved. This policy deals with field trips and eligibility for those. The changes make it a case by case situation with disciplinary actions and detentions figuring in.
Policy 3420 deals with student fundraisers. Discussion continued from last month and it was eventually decided to table a decision to the August meeting.
Policy 3255 deals with student dress. It was voted to approve with the recommended changes.
Policy 5360 deals with staff dress codes. Rehder had some recommendations. They will incorporate the recommendations  and vote on it at the August meeting.
Several other policies had their first readings and some recommendations from Rehder. The board will review these and discuss them again in August.
In administrative reports, Matt Elven had a short report. He noted that sports physicals are set for July 30 at St. Mary’s Health Clinic.
The fall sports meeting will be August 5 from 6:30-7:00 p.m. in the gym. This is to get paperwork taken care for all those taking sports in the coming year.
Registration day is August 13 from7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
First practice for fall sports is set for August 10.
Rehder, in his Elementary Principal report noted 33 students attended the Summer Camp, which is help students who are behind. They had 51 referrals and 37 committed initially.
Back to school night is Monday, August 31 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Cheri Holthaus and Brenda Kaschmitter were to have a Safe Sitter course on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
In his facilities report Rehder said the City of Cottonwood will be filling cracks in the upper parking lot at the high school and sealcoating both lots this week. The city will also be running a BST strip from the entrance of the football/track complex to the edge of the bus shop.
The fire alarm systems had their annual check. They had one alarm in the elementary school that needed to be fixed. Fisher Systems, who provides and services the school systems said they may need upgraded in the near future due to age and lack of availability for parts. Rehder said they are looking at about $190,000 to upgrade the system. Some grants are available. Rehder also said Rick Forsmann knows a firm in Orofino that may be able to give a competing bid.
Gym floors are refinished.
Rick Forsmann is plumbing in some valves at the high school and will likely do the plumbing replacements he had originally planned for this summer during next summer instead.
Andrew Miller has started on the gym roof replacement.
Carpet installation is done in the elementary classrooms and multi-purpose room. Doors were painted and installed for the small work rooms in the multi-purpose room.
In his superintendent report Rehder noted there will be a couple of student teachers here. Amelia Uhlenkott will work with Kristi Bruegeman’s 5^th grade next spring and graduate from LCSC. Tessica Lustig will complete her student teaching experience with Andrea Brannan’s 2^nd grade class this year. She will graduate from WGU when her student teaching is completed.
Rehder and Elven will be attending the admin conference in Boise August 3-5. He is also on the state evaluation committee again this year.
The Idaho School Board Association convention will be Nov. 4-6 in Boise.
