Winning tickets will be drawn for the Summer Reading program prizes and the two raffle-baskets. Each of the two raffle-baskets contains OVER $100-worth of prizes! Joan has reviewed the 2002 book, It Happened In Idaho, by Randy Stapilus. “The author subtitles this book ‘Remarkable Events That Shaped History’; this is a compendium of several essays about events that occurred within 200 years [1805 – 1999] of Idaho history. The book includes 35 essays and covers events that occurred from 1805 (The Lewis-Clark Expedition) through the visitation of 3 U. S. astronauts to the Craters Of the Moon National Monument in southern Idaho in 1999. Between these events are many others, including the history of Henry Spaulding, the establishment of the Cataldo Mission, the founding of Pierce near Idaho’s first gold strike, the White Bird Canyon battle with the Nez Perce, and outlaw Butch Cassidy’s visit to Montpelier, Idaho. In addition, there are essays about the creation of Sun Valley, construction of a nuclear energy reactor at Idaho National Laboratory, the attempted jumping of the Snake River by the famous stuntman, Evil Knievel, and the creation of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness area. Altogether, this is a fascinating book, showing that Idaho has had many very interesting historical events.” July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. The volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community Library make every effort to ensure our services and all tangible offerings support our on-going mission to serve the literary needs of our communities. “Volunteering helps us gain new and valuable skills and provides us with a sense of community.” We especially appreciate our conscientious patrons who care for the items they borrow from the Library and return them on time in the same condition as when they checked them out – THANK YOU! Send your volunteer message to cottonwoodlib@gmail.com. “Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation's compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain loving one another.” Please recommend improvements to the Library’s direction, priorities and customer service. Thank you all! | COTTONWOOD
