School Board meets The school board held their July meeting Monday, July 21. Carly Behler was appointed to be the new Business Manager/Clerk of the Board replacing Denise Uhlenkott who had retired after serving the District for over 37 years. The board voted to leave bus rental rates the same as last year at $3.50 per mile. Per Diem rates will also remain the same. Hot Lunch prices will see a 15 cent increase on student meals at both schools. Elementary goes from $3 to $3.15 and the Jr./Sr. High goes from $3.50 to $3.65. This is due to the increasing costs. Adult prices remain the same. Breakfast prices are $2.00 at each school. The facility use rates will remain the same. Superintendent Jon Rehder said they would push most of the gym use to the Auxiliary Gym because unlike the Elementary School Gym, there is no access to anything other than the rest rooms and the gym. The board approved transferring bus depreciation funds of $20,095 to the bus account. Lisa Hasselstrom was added as a signer to the US Bank account for Prairie High School-Student Body-Alumni. The board approved going out for bids again on the gym foyer. Extra-curricular assignments were approved with several positions still open at this time. The high school volleyball head coaching position was filled with Alecia Hagen taking that post. However JV and C coaches are still open. See below for the full list of approved assignments. Several policy manual updates that were discussed at the May meeting and tabled at the June meeting were approved. Rehder also presented several policies pertaining to new procedures passed by the Idaho Legislature for a first reading. He also presented a policy on Student-Owned Electronic Communications Devices for a first reading. Those will be further discussed at the August meeting. In the reports, Matt Elven reported Laurie Lorentz, Rick Forsmann and Sydney Shears are doing a great job getting the school ready for the upcoming school year. Sage Elven power washed the parking lots near the gym for her senior project and repainted the lines. He reported the NFHS cameras have been installed at the high school gym and at the football field. The one at the gym was installed on the east side above the upper seating section. From that location it could also be used to film graduation and things like Missoula Children’s Theatre. Also when customers sign up for the NFHS service the school gets some payback from NFHS. Sports Physicals were set for Tuesday, July 22 at St. Mary’s Clinic. The fall sports meeting is August 4 from 6-7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria for all Jr. & Sr. High athletes. There will be a mandatory coaches meeting from 5:30 to 6. First day of practice for fall sports will be August 11. Registration is set for August 13 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Open coaching positions include JV & C Volleyball, Varsity and JV girls basketball, Varsity and JV baseball, 7th/8th Volleyball and Varsity and JV Softball. Rehder reported that summer school has been held and went well. They had about 85% attendance over the 3 weeks – June 26-28, June 30-July 2 and July 8-10. Back to School Night is set for Wednesday, August 27 from 4:30 to 6:30. Students and parents will be able to bring in supplies, meet their teachers and enjoy a hamburger or hot dog. A Safe Sitter course was held for 16 students on July 8 and 9 in the multi-purpose room. In his facilities report Rehder noted that Rick Forsmann will be working with the city to sealcoat the Elementary parking lot, the road from East St. to the bus barn gate, a stretch behind the Elementary from the baseball field to the boys locker room plus a 20 foot stretch at the high school by the green gate going to the bus barn. They are done painting the high school and they hope the window replacement work will be done this week. Fire alarms were checked with no issues. Gym floor refinishing was done June 30-July2. Two pickleball courts were painted in the Auxiliary Gym floor prior to refinishing. He said they are looking at carpet square installation in the elementary classrooms next summer. They plan to move the library to the current multi-purpose room so it will be more centrally located. They would then turn the current library into a multi-purpose room. He feels carpet is easier to clean than tiles and also helps with heating as you don’t lose so much heat to a carpeted floor compared to a bare tile floor. In his superintendent’ report he is planning on a meeting on August 13 to discuss tech use in the classroom for next year. There will be 3 student teachers in the school next year. Madison Shears will complete her K-8 student teaching through WGU with Megan Frei in Kindergarten. She will also complete her Special Ed endorsement sometime next year. Katie (Goeckner) Munger will complete her student teaching through LCSC with Julie Schumacher in the third grade and her Special Ed endorsement with Vikki Riener and Michelle Bledsoe. Amelia Uhlenkott will complete her student teaching through LCSC. They have yet to determine a grade level for her. They are looking at ordering a bus for next year. If one is order in October or November, it would be her May/June 2027. Rehder is on the state evaluation committee again this year. He will be in Boise Sept. 25-26. Rehder and Elven will be participating in Project Leadership for the next 3 years. The meeting adjourned to an executive session at 8:30 p.m. The next regular meeting of the board will be Monday August 18 at 7 p.m. Extra-Curricular assignments Following are the extracurricular assignments approved at the school board meeting Monday, July 21.
