To the Library and Beyond The Board of Directors, Prairie Community Library, Inc. is scheduled to meet on Thursday 14 August at 10 AM in the Library; please join us. Just a few days left to enter the Guess How Many contest; entries close on Saturday Aug 9th. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, August 12 at the 6 PM Picnic & Concert in the Park. Details are shaping up for Tuesday’s grand finale of our season of celebrating our Library’s 40th anniversary. We’ll be awarding raffle prizes, Summer Reading Program prizes, random audience prizes, and of course there will be some great picnic food. Pulled-pork will be roasting all day; add fresh baked rolls delivered by the prairie’s Almond Blossom Bakes sourdough bread company. Special recipe coleslaw & desserts made by library volunteers, including ever-popular Rice Krispie Treats, will be ready along with beverages. So bring your appetite, some cash for the food & last minute raffle ticket purchases, lawn chairs or picnic blankets to be comfortable for the evening’s band concert. It all begins at 6 PM and goes until the food runs out and music stops playing! Joan has reviewed the 2010 book, Two Rivers, One History - Historic Images Of the Lewis-Clark Valley, by A. L. Alford, Jr. “This is a great book with many nice historical photos of the area.” This book of photos of Lewiston and the Lewis-Clark Valley was published by long-time editor of the Lewiston Tribune newspaper. Mr. Alford has collected many great historical photos of the area, covering topics including: Agriculture; commerce and industry; disasters; education; people and society; public service; recreation and celebrations; residential areas; transportation; and scenic views. There are several photos of downtown Lewiston, as well. Saturday, August 9 is National Book Lovers Day. Join the volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community Library for our Board meeting Thursday morning to be a part of the continuing conversation about the Library’s direction and priorities. “We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.” Most of our July statistics were higher than the monthly-average of previous years.
