To the Library and Beyond Joan’s book review this week is titled, “Times Past – A Photographic History of Idaho County”, published in 2002 by the Idaho County Free Press. This is a photographic history with many nice old historical photos of Idaho County, Idaho. The book is divided into several topics, with photos of each. These topics include Scenic Views, Public Service, Education, People, Disasters, Heritage, Society, Commerce, Logging, Mining, Farm and Ranch, Transportation, and Recreation and Celebrations. Since the Idaho County Free Press began publication in 1886, some of these photos date back as early as at least 1889. This is a fascinating book depicting many Idaho County locations within the past 135 years. Last Tuesday August 11, the library hosted a music show fundraiserin Cottonwood City Park, with the Prairie Community Band playing music led by director John Eynon. The Band presented a great show lasting over an hour, with many patriotic songs and marches in honor of America’s 250th birthday this year. The library had many sweet confections for sale by donation, and there were many great donations, for which the library thanks its patrons and the public very much. The event was attended by 125-plus folks, not including the band and library staff. The weather was perfect, being sunny and breezy, and everyone had a great time. Lots of young kids played on the playground facilities at the park while the band was playing. Many thanks to the Community Band for putting on this event in support of the library and our community. We look forward to the Idaho County Fair parade, which will be held in Cottonwood starting at 10:00 AM this Saturday, August 22. The library will have a truck float participating in the parade.
