To the Library and Beyond
We are tremendously humbled by the outpouring of support last Tuesday night for our final fortieth-anniversary event with the Picnic & Concert in the Park.  With about two hundred in attendance our picnic dinners quickly sold out.  The music by the Prairie Community band was both tender and rousing.
Winners of the two big raffle-baskets were Leah Kaschmitter and Myles Prigge.  Summer reading program prize winners were Rosie, Lincoln, Mackenzie, Adelia, Michah, and Norie.  The vintage Scrabble Game guess-how-many-in-the-jar contest was won by Ashlyn Hasenoehrl.  Photos below.
Huge thanks to the Lewiston Roundup Association for giving two family rodeo passes as prizes.  Thanks also to the Asotin Family Aquatic Center for all the swim passes.  Special thanks to the Critters to Cakes 4-H club members who so expertly sold raffle tickets galore.  We also thank everyone who participated in our special events with your attendance and donations.  With much needed volunteer assistance your library will be in good shape for the next forty years!
Joan has reviewed the 1996 book, Last Man Out, by James E. Parker, Jr.  “This is a very interesting book,” with “many details about the [Viet Nam] War,” Mr. Parker recognizes the prevailing sentiment of many Americans during that time.  This book is the author’s account of his service in the U. S. Army Infantry during the Viet Nam War in the mid-1960s.  The author was a 2nd Lieutenant Platoon Leader in an infantry company, and he recounts his service-time leading his platoon on patrols and in some battles.  After returning to the States, Lieutenant Parker resigned his commission and became an agent with the CIA.  He also related some of his time in the CIA which he spent in Laos during the Viet Nam War era.
Saturday 30 August is the anniversary of the birthday of Frankenstein author, Mary Shelley.  The volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community Library strive to continue serving your literary needs however they may change.  "Great acts are made up of small deeds."
Send your volunteer message to cottonwoodlib@gmail.com.  “Volunteering can enhance our physical and mental health.”  Please recommend improvements to the Library’s direction, priorities and customer service.  Thank you all!
