The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots volleyball team lost a pair of league matches this past week. ![]() On Tuesday, August 25, they traveled to Genesee for their season opener and lost in 4 sets, 19-25, 17-25, 25-22, 21-25. On Thursday, August 27, they played their home opener against Highland and also lost in 4 sets, 25-15, 18-25, 24-26, 19-25. At Genesee
Bosco fell behind 0-4 to open the first set against
Genesee. Miah Mager scored the first point on a free ball sideout.
Annamae Cummings followed with an ace to make it 2-4. Bosco then fell behind 3-9 before Madeline Wassmuth scored a sideout kill. Wassmuth then went to the service line and served 4 straight aces and added another after a kill be Cece Remacle. That gave Bosco a 10-9 lead. Genesee scored a sideout but Catherine Beckman answered with a kill to make it 11-10. Bosco appeared to take a 12-10 lead but the officials then determined a Patriot had touched a Genesee spike that had been called out at first. Genesee never again gave up the lead in the set as they went on to win by 6. Bosco never led in the second set as they fell behind 1-4 and 4-11. They got withing 10-15 after a kill each by Wassmuth and Mager and an ace by Remacle but Genesee answered with a 1-5 run to lead by 9. Bosco never got closer than 6 at 16-22 after an ace by Cummings and again at 17-23 after Cummings scored on a first touch. Genesee scored the first point of the third set then Beckman scored a sideout kill and Remacle served an ace for a 2-1 lead. Genesee led 3-6 before a kill each by Beckman, Remacle and Catherine Seubert tied it at 6. Genesee took back the lead and held it until Mager went to the service line with the score at 13-16. Mager served 2 aces, Beckman scored on a tip to tie it and Mager served another ace for a 17-16 lead. Genesee again took back the lead until a block by Wassmuth and an ace by Cummings tied it at 21. Genesee took back the lead but Seubert scored on a kill to the back line. Seubert then served an ace and Wassmuth scored a kill to get to set point. A bad hit by Genesee gave Bosco the set. Bosco tried to carry that momentum into the fourth set as Beckman scored a set opening kill. Genesee took a 2-5 lead but missed a serve. An ace by Beckman and a kill by Seubert tied it at 5. Genesee again took the lead but a sideout by Wassmuth, who followed by scoring on a block that tied it. Cummings served an ace and Wassmuth added a kill for a 9-7 lead. Genesee took back the lead but Bosco rallied for a 12-11 on a kill by Mager and 13-12 on another kill by Mager. Genesee scored 3 straight but Bosco answered with a sideout kill by Mager and a 4-point service run by Remacle for an 18-15 lead. Remacle had 2 aces while Beckman had 2 kills. Bosco then held on to the lead until it was 21-18 after a kill by Wassmuth. Genesee then scored the final 7 points of the match to close it out. Wassmuth had 16 kills, including 3 blocks with 2 assists and 6 aces. Beckman had 14 kills, 2 assists and 3 aces. Mager had 5 kills, 1 assist and 3 aces. Seubert had 5 kills, 1 assist and 2 aces. Remacle had 3 kills, 15 assists and 4 aces. Cummings had 2 kills, 14 assists and 4 aces. The JV team lost their match 10-25, 3-25. They fell behind 1-7 and 2-12 in the opening set. They were only able to score while serving twice. The first came when Zoey Alm scored on a free ball after a set from Annamae Cummings that made it 5-14. The other came when Audra Spencer scored a kill on a set from Alm that made it 7-19. They held their only lead of the night when Genesee bricked the only serve of the second set for a 1-0 lead. Genesee then scored 13 straight points before missing a serve again. Bosco’s only other points came when Nora Johnson scored on a tip for a sideout. Vs. Highland

looking like the much better team. Highland missed the opening serve
and Remacle then served 2 aces and Beckman added 2 kills for a 5-0
lead.
H ighland
got on the board but trailed 6-2 when they missed a serve. Beckman then
served 4 straight points. She had an ace and Wassmuth and Seubert each
added a kill. An under the net violation against Highland made it 11-2.
Remacle had another serving run as she took over at 16-8 and served the Patriots to a 21-7 lead. She had 2 aces while Beckman added 2 kills and Cummings 1. At 21-10, the two teams went into sideout mode as the next 6 straight points were sideouts. Highland then scored a pair of pull within 24-15 before Seubert scored the set winning kill. The second set was tight early on as the teams traded the lead a couple times but Highland found their footing and turned a 10-9 deficit into a 16-24 lead. Bosco fought off 2 set points before Highland scored the winner. Highland then jumped out to lead of 0-5, 2-8 and 5-12 in the third set. The patriots fought their way back into it as they tied it at 16 after a kill by Beckman and an ace by Wassmuth. Bosco tied it at 18, 21, 22 and 23 but couldn’t take the lead until Seubert scored a kill to get to set point at 24-23. A missed serve tied it and Highland then scored the next 2 points to take a 1 game to 2 lead. Highland jumped out to a 0-3 lead in the fourth set but Bosco came back to take a 9-6 lead as Wassmuth scored 3 kills and Seubert added another while Mager and Beckman each had an ace. After a Highland sideout, Wassmuth and Beckman each scored a kill for an 11-7 lead. Highland came back to retake the lead at 12-13. Bosco took back the lead at 15-14 and 16-15 on a pair of kills by Seubert. Highland tied it but then netted a serve and a kill by Mager and an ace by Seubert made it 19-16. However that was the last point the Patriots would score as Highland finished the match with 9 straight points. Beckman had 14 kills and 3 aces while Seubert had 12 kills and 1 ace. Wassmuth had 8 kills and 1 ace. Mager had 5 kills, 1 assist and 4 aces. Remacle had 2 kills, 18 assists and 7 aces. Cummings had 1 kill, 15 assists and 2 aces. Bosco is now 0-2 both overall and in league play. Highland swept the JV game 13-25, 13-25, 6-15 Bosco too a 6-3 lead in the opening set as Bosco got a pair of points for Highland being out of rotation plus a kill by Tess Goeckner. Highland then answered with a huge scoring run as they scored 14 straight points before Emma Murdock broke the run with a free ball. Alm then served 2 aces and Teagen Dieseldorff added a kill to cut the lead to 10-17. That was as close as it got as Highland went on to win by 12. Bosco started better in the second set as they took a 2-1 lead on a kill by Spencer. Highland then took the lead but Bosco came back with an ace by Johnson for an 8-6 lead. After Highland tied it, Dieseldorf scored a sideout and Alm served 2 aces for an 11-8 lead. At that point Highland took over with 10 straight points and went on to again win by 12. In a third set to 15 the Patriots never lead as Highland took a 1-5 lead. A sideout kill and then 2 aces by Spencer cut the lead to 4-5 but then Highland pulled away and went on to win by 9. 13 out for Lady Patriots volleyball There are 13 players led by 2 seniors turned out for the St. John Bosco Academy high school volleyball team. Those seniors are Miah Mager and Catherine Seubert. There are also 3 juniors. They are Catherine Beckman, Cece Remacle and Madeline Wassmuth. There are 5 sophomores. They are Annamae Cummings, Zoey Alm, Tess Goeckner, Carabella Creta and Teagen Dieseldorff. All are returning from last year’s team. New to the team are 3 freshmen. They are Audra Spencer, Emma Murdock and Nora Johnson. Jamie Johnson returns as the head coach but she has 2 new assistants this year. They are Emily Wassmuth and Olivia Schwartz.
