Reprise of the 'Pastor's Pen'By Buzz DahlenMy how times flies… It’s hard for me to believe that it was 20 years ago, on the last Sunday of August, that we moved away from Cottonwood. (It’s been 33 years since we moved to Cottonwood!) The time has flown by like riffing through the pages of a book. Too often, that’s how we go through life. But God has written an amazing Book for all of us and we should focus on each day, each page, so that we do not miss a single thing He has written for us “today.” Let’s take a look at Psalm 139, verse 16: “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Our life is a book written by God, that we can only read one page at a time. That page is called, “today.” Too often we don’t like what we are reading, or we skim over what was written for us on today’s page, or we try to jump a head in an attempt to rewrite our future, (or change something about our past), before we are finished reading today’s page… I know that I have done all of the above and have not fully appreciated what God had written on my page called today. Another Psalm I encourage you to read is Psalm 118. Let’s take a look at verse 24: “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” 33 years is over 12 thousand todays and each one of them was made by God and written in my book for me. The same is true for each and every one of us… My encouragement to us all is to live fully in today. Do not skim over. Do not make a quick judgment of the day until you have read it all. Put your trust in the Author of your book and have faith in the fact that God loves you, He knows what He is doing and He has your best in mind. He does have a wonderful plan for your life… The Apostle Paul wrote: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 I thank God for every page He has written in my book and I hope you will look forward to reading what He has for you on today’s page. Especially since it includes this addition of “The Pastor’s Pen." In closing; I just need to say; during my recent visit I was so very blessed to spend my todays with so many of you. God had written each day out so that our paths crossed and I was able to look so many of you in your eyes and tell you, “I love you and I thank God for writing you in my book.” I am reminded of my first day in Cottonwood. I walked around and wondered what life would be like for my family and I. So much has changed since that “today.” Yet so much has stayed the same…. Cottonwood will always be my “home.” You will always be my “family.” And I will always love you as long as it is called “Today.” Thanks you all for the love and the hugs… | COTTONWOOD
