To the Library and Beyond Prairie Community Library, Inc. – Your nonprofit, all volunteer source. Please join us for the September meeting of the Board of Directors of Prairie Community Library, Inc. We’ll be meeting on Thursday 18 September at 10 AM in the Library. Patrons are still talking about the “Picnic in the Park” and concert; everyone enjoyed that event immensely. Frances and Carissa may be able to repeat that triumph if they can find more volunteers. Once again, we salute all our amazing volunteers! Without volunteers, our all-volunteer library would cease to operate. “Volunteering can help us celebrate our gifts by giving something back.” Frances has reviewed the 1994 book, Idaho Loners, Hermits, Solitaires & Individualists, by Cort Conley. As an Idaho historian, Conley had met some of the subjects of the book, knew the parts of Idaho they inhabited, and wanted to preserve their unique Idaho stories. Each chapter covers the story of one of twelve individuals featured, revealing their background and how they lived in Idaho as loners and hermits. Some are well-known to Idahoans, such as Buckskin Bill, Dugout Dick and Outbad Outlaw (aka Claude Dallas). Others are lesser known, yet immensely interesting characters; some of whom were Wheelbarrow Annie, the Ridgerunner and Free Press Frances. Photos are included to better visualize these unique Idahoans. Monday, September 15 is the first day of National Hispanic Heritage month - until Wednesday 15 October. Don’t forget the meeting of the Library board on Thursday 18 at 10 AM. Friday 19 September is National POW/MIA Recognition Day. The volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community Library are committed to expertly gathering information and using it to decide what we need to do to serve you better. Send your volunteer message to cottonwoodlib@gmail.com. "Great acts are made up of small deeds." Please recommend improvements to the Library’s direction, priorities and customer service. Thank you all! | COTTONWOOD
